The long experience of Mr. Adhim (District
-of Columbia,) corroborated by the practice
of North Carolioa, is, that upon the whole,
the native grape of the country succeeds
better than any imported grape. Of the

CULTURE OF THE VINE.
Wc have the moat satisfactory evidence
that this country will suit as well us any one
In the world for the cultivation of the Vine,
.and we believe that the time is not fwr distant
nt which the importation of Wine into the
United States, must cease.
There is an excellent article upon this sub
ject (written by Mr. Adlam) published in
the National Intelligencer of last Wcdnes
a'y. . He states the comparative nett pro
mts of an acre cultivated In Vines, in differ
ent pnrts ot Prance, and in thM oonntry.
The advantage is greatly in favor of thm
country, chiefly on account of the high du
ties upon the importation of wine, which ope
rate aa a groat bounty. In France one man
?will cultivate a vineyard of four acres. Mr.
Adlum says, that in this country (and he ha*

vate double as much. An arte in Francv
