Beaufort Gazette:
During the latter part of last week
and the first of this Beaufort county
lettuce has been selllfig on the
Northern markets for $5.00 and bet
ter an Samper, with some Celling
from'" $3 to $4.50, according to
grade.
The lettuce crop is moving faster
than was anticipated and seems to
be in a very good condition in spite
of the fact that it has suffered' some
from the warm days and lack of
sufficient rain. , .
The Irish potato crop throughout
the county is looking exceptionally
well aiyl the farmers in this section
have high hopes for the yield and
good prices.
A car of lettuce shipped by Mr. H.
G. BurckmeyeV, and sold by Mr. Mc-
Sweeney through Olivet -Bros,
brought $5. Mr. Burckmeyer has
beautiful lettuce again this season,
his last year’s crop being one of the
best in this section. ;
Mr. W. R. Eve, Jr., returned on
Thursday morning of this week from
a conference in Columbia with Mr.
Chas.- Braham, traffic manager for
the South. Eastern District, who has
headquarters in Atlanta. This con
ference was arranged by Con cress-
tun n Byrnes in the interest of the
Beaufort . county shippers* --Mr*
Braham assured Mr. Eye that h<*
would do all in his power to assist
In the movement of truck by putting
men along the line to see that ears
moved promptly, and would furnish
all Hip refrigerator cars that aro
needed.
