Hampton. \Jarrh lo.--One of tho
disastrous fires tn the history
of the town occurred in VarnviHe at
an early hour this niornin*. when
practically all the business houses
cm both ntdefl - cf->frahr street -wer+*+-
destroyed, entailing an estimated
loss of between sixty and seventy-
five thousand dollars, partly covered
by insurance.
The fire originated in a lot sepa
rating the stores of (\ W. Taylor
and W. O. Guess. A number of
banana cartons and a quantity of
eiielsior had been piled up on this
vacant lot, >ind it is supposed that
so-seone passing carelessly threw a
lighted cigarette on this pile of re-

Had Gained Much Headway.
