Bennett, Esq., of Ehrhardt, was in T Walterboro this morning ea roetf to Charleston, where he ex pects to spend a month in a sanitar ium. Mr. Bennett states that he has never fully recovered from the effecte of the automobile accident which he suffered more than a year ago. but that he hopes a- month of rest and treatment will restore him to his ac customed strength. — o ■ ■ v Lodge Mercantile Co.’* N Compromise Offer Accepted. J. M. Moorer, Esq., and H. R. * Padgett, Esq., bad business in Char leston Monday. .While there they had a final hearing in the matter of the Lodge Mercantile Company, be ing able to effect a compromise. Ac cordingly this concern will be ab’ej fo resume business again, which H intends doing at once. This com pany went into bankruptcy a few weeks ago, their financial stringen- ry being brought about by losses on fertilizers sold. The people of Lodge will be glad to have this firm again In business. o Demonstrator Heanl ' Returns From Conference. County Farm Demonstrator Hearl returned Monday from Clemson Col lege, where he has been for the pa-t week attending a meeting of the agents, and a conference for the in formation of these workers. He re ports that he had a mosf helpful meeting and that he has brought back with him many new ideas for the work he is doing in this county. Mr. Heard says this is the greatest educative meeting he ever attended. and he was very much impressed with the earnestness and-intelligence of the me">be’-<» of the demonstration orce in this State. —o Announce Their Engager.‘nt. Considerable interest has been taken in the’ announc«mont of th» engagement of Miss Sarah From- berg to Mr. M. Bugeslov. This en gagement came somewhat as a sur prise to their ^friends. Miss From- berg is one of’ the teachers in the Walterboro school, having come he:e from Charleston to accept the po sition. Mr. Bogeslov is a son of Mrs. B. Levy, ant} holds a responsible po- sUion with the store of the Colleton Bargain House. The wedding will tu^e place hi the spring after close $r the school, the date not having Seen definitely fixed. Delighted With “Birth of » Nation.” Many Walterboro folks attended the performances of “The Birth of a Nation,” in Charleston last week, and everyone who saw this wonder ful photo drama, was delighted with it. Those who saw it pronounced it the best picture they ever saw. It was a thrilling presentation of Thomas Dixon’s book. “The Clans man,” and depicted manv of the stirring scenes of the times after the. War Between the States. . Has Opened . * *. Fruit Store. H. Cohen, of Charleston, has leas ed the old store building of B. G. Hyrne, for the purpose of running a fruit, cigars, candy and soft fiHnks store.. Mr. Cohen will be personally in charge of the business. Fertilizer Inspector In Walterboro. M. P. McCalla, inspector of ferti lizer and cotton seed meal for Clem son College, was in Walterbofo Tues day. Mr. McCalla talked interest ingly of the condition of the fertili zer market. He is of the opinion that the farmers will u?e about as much fertilizer this year as in 1915. althou"’h they will be a bit late buy ing. He also thinks a good fertili zer, which will be within reach of most, farmers, will a mixture of 1,200 pounds of 16 per cent acid and 800 pounds of cotton seed tne*L, Th's will cost about 118.80 per. ton de livered and Mr. McCalla says this : s about as good a fertilizer for cot on and corn t»s we need.
