Rome trouble was had wirh gamblers, who Insisted in opening "percentage wheels” playing for money. These began to operate early Wednesday morning, and chief Patterson ran in a few of them.* Seven members of the midway were lodged in jail charged by the chief with gambling. These offenders were released .Thursday morning by order of Mayor Ackerman upon payment of a nominal fine as rep resentations we.re made to him that only one of the men.arrested had actually engaged in the playing^ the others not havir^g opened up 'Vhon arrested. We had the pleasure on Wednes day of attending the fair at Walter boro. This was our first visit to the Colleton county fair since Its organisation seven years ago. We were actually surprised-to see such an excellent arranged affair. The buildings, together with the arrange, ment of the race track and other things, will compare favorably with those of any county in the State.
