Kinard, one of Hit farmers, prosperous farmers, called in to sw» tA Saturday. Members Union: You can’t pick up a paper these gaye without seeing something ou marketing plans to aid the farmar to gut his produce to the consumer Without the great difference In price as between grower and consumer. Commissions of all sorts are study ing this problem. Individuals, cor porations/ lawmakers and societies have the one and only scheme. It is ali mighty well; much of it all is very edifying. With so much discussion and planning and schem-. Irg and upllftng beneficial results must result. So much agitation can not take place without getting peo ple to thinking, and after a while, v/ith thinking along righ^ lines, real results may ;om«. But 1 want to burn into your brains this idea, which I have stressed long and persistently—that the farmer Isn't going to get any adequate, practical, worth-while marketing plan until h« wo:ks it out himself Moreover, he won’t accept anybody else s plan and I know it, as you know it. If he does accept any semi-benev- ol-»nt scheme In that direction, he won't stand by it. I know it. and you know it. It is best usually to be blunt when the truth is to be told, because to soft-soap and palaver gets nothing but contempt in the end. I believe the vast majority of American farmers know now that I am their, friend all the time, and t.:at I have no axes to grind, save th»ir axes. So I will stand forth and tell you the solemn facts, as I see and under stand them, as I see and understand you. You pre not gong to get your rghts. through commissions, through individuals, through corporation, aye. even through your great govern ment. it MUST come from your own efforts, your own organization, through plans formulated within your own ranks—and. I believe, through the Farmers’ Union. Do not understand that I min imize or would stop others in honest and genuine endeavor to solve your problems and get down to a tangible, workable, common sense plan for marketing. There are many unseltish atHi noble spirits at work, and. as I have stated, by the nation-wide agi tation over marketing, good is bound to come. But you are arbiters and masters o' your own destiny. Workout your wu plans, or tet such plan come as th» solid, concrete action from your own.folk. T^en, when it is in defi nite form, stand fast by your guns.
