During the next few months, when probably much discussion will take place on the quostion of the dis pensary, we desire to be porofeefty fair to both sides and of course will publish reasonable articles either for or against the dispensary. This means tbat at times we will be flood ed with despatches dealing with this subject and in order that our facili ties and space may not be taxed we are forced to announfce tbat it will be r%" m necessary for us to'upply some rule, to these articles. Hereafter, we will gladly publish each week two articles on each side of the queetio wlU Use the first two articles which come to the office bn either side for that week'a issue. The others will hare to wait until later issues. If ” r »ore - than two articles in favor ot the Dispensary Is received, we will publish the two which reach us first! If more than two articles against the Dispensary are received, we will pub lish the two which reach us first. We hope that our friends wl|l re member this, and know why their articles were not published, if it is ®«**sssry to leave any out. However, we will glad to get the articles and will publish them as soon as pos sible to do so. Harwell B. Banders of Roanoke. Lawson in an artl- cle published elsewhere in this Issue asks the Editor a question pertain ing to our Editorial. “Our Attitude oa the Dispensary Question, 4 ’ publish ed in the last issue. In this connection, we will firrt agree with Rev. I,awson that no con troversy is desired by us with him on this question or any other, ami such will not arise. The question which he asks re lates as to whether we had refer ence to him when we alluded to a possibility of “hypocrisy” on the part of some prohibitionists. . To this . question, we answer in the -nega tive. We did not mean to attack, and me think our editorial cannot be intrepreted as an attack, upon the consistent prohibitionist who haa been a prohibitionist all the way through, ^ pho has tried to enforce the laws, and who has not just turned prohi bitionist on account of the dispen sary agitation. Our reference to this, can only apply to those who have done nothing to break up the illegal sate of whiskey, but. who, on the other hand, have sanctioned, and defended the illegal sale of whiskey. Our idea of a prohibition ist is one that is all the time unal terably opposed to the sale or con sumption of liquor In any form. A person cannot be termed a prohibi tionist who is in favor of blind tigers, and our reference to hypocrisy ap plied to those who terra themselves as prohibitionists but who give all In many way* to the existence of blind tigers. We are sure that can not be applied to Rev. Lawson, and willingly state that we did not have bjm in mind when we wrote the ar ticle. n j It is not oar purpose to attack anyone, certainly not Rev. Lawson. low upturned earth dreams and dreams until life’s horizon lifts and broadens for him. No available sta tistics are at hand, hut very many of the men who mark the outposts of the world's onward progress dreamed In the furrow v Something about the contact with Mother Earth, the Inti- jnate association with her moods and her brooding heart begets stamina, character, stability and deep-rooted purposefulness. So ghen some foppish young city chap with tailored suit, polished shoes and manicured nails sneers at “the country bumpkin” don’t let it disturb you, for your dreams made possible bis bed of ease and wrought the city, the soft-cushioned automo biles and the comforts he enjoys. Moreover, you are worth a dozen of him in doing life's work, for your" bent back, your wrinkled and un kempt clothes, your horny hands and tanned skin resuit from doing the the hard, the humble but the abso lutely necesnary work to keep this old world turning in its orbit. But the dreamer drone who nods In the sun and lets the world rurh by him has no place in the scheme of things. We have had hundreds of that sort in the Farmers’ Un.Vi, who sits down and dreams tl\at every thing will come to him without effort on his part. Then he wakes up and quits because, as some one haa ex pressed it, "they ain't doing airy- thing.” Dream, but turn your dream into something. C. 8. Barrett. Chicago. IH.. May 1, 19H.
