Savannah Capitalists Turn Down New Road Proposition. ’’ Though the people of Bamberg and Ehrhardt. have asked for asaie- tance In Savannah to build h con necting link In the Atlantic Coast Line, from Ehrhardt to Bamberg, Ai.vvnnah is not going to give that aid. I'poi. in vest’.ration it is found thtt Savannah will not benefit ma terially by the completion of such x link. Of the conference held in Savannah Tuesday, The Morning News sa>8; "As a result .of investigations made by.^Executive Officer Gray of tho Chamber of Commerce into the Bamberg railroad proposition, at the request of the transportation com mittee, the conclusion has been rca« bed that the proposition is not one for Savannah capital. "It ia pointed out that the Atjan- tic Coast Line would perhaps ehjoy greater benefits from ;ue proposed line than any other organization. Sa vannah should, however, enjoy cer tain benefits. On Monday Mr. Gray with Mr. Williams, Mr. Hayes and Mr. Rhodes, the three Bamberg rep resentatives. held a conference with James Menz!es. traffic manager of the Atlantic Coast Line, in regard to continuing the construction of th(a road from Bamberg to Ehrhardt. "Mr. Gray states that the people of Bamberg have .shown consider able enterprise and Initiative in their efforts to obtain a new outlet. They Jiave obtained the Tight of way. a standard grade, and placed its tollt a ties over the entire distance of fourteen miles. It is believed that they will be given help by the Coast Line as the new road would be a feeder for that Byateta.*’ Sometime ago a similar proposi tion for the construction of this same link of railroad was presented in Augusta. Mr. Knight of Bamberg, coming here for that purpose. It was shown then that the completion of .the Green Pond-Ehrhardt line to Bamberg will give Augusta mater ially Improved railroad facilities through a section of South Carolina now almost inacccMlble. From Qrean Pond up through Colleton ■ plcted to Bamberg will give a <1 I reel connection to Augusta at Haiti berg with the Coast Line and South ern. whereas it will mean direct con nection for Savannah over only th' 4 Seaboard Air Line. 1 For several years persixWht ef forts have been making by the peo ple of Bamberg and Ehrhardt to in sure the completion of the link, and the declaration has ueen made that they intend continuing their efforts Mrs. H.Wilson Ambrose, of Con way. is the guest of Miss Margurite Murphy.
