A pier- Is on foot which is not only prac ticable tut feasible. Electric lights for Walterboro, therefore, are in the range of possibility in the near fature. The suggestion of The Press and Standard seems to have found favor In town generally and espec ially With the Town Council. That plam ie to purchase soother en gine to be installed in the pump ing house, which combined with the engine already there, will give •nfflclent power to generate elec tricity, not only for lighting the streets but the business houses aad residences. At the Council meeting held Fri day aighi. the suggestion of the appointment of s committee to Ir- ▼eatigate the possibility and cost of h plant for lighting the town met arith a reedy response and the fol lowing members of Council were appointed: J. M. Moorer, D. B. Black ard E. D. Lemacks. This committee has taken up the mat ter with Supt. J. N. Lay, of Char leston, who has charge of this territory for the InternatloncJ Har vester Co., in the sale of gasoline engires. His proposition is to send an expert here to investigate the cost of lighting plant,, making a blue print of the town, nhowir»3: the location of arc lights etc. Col. J. O. PMgett. M. P. How ell. The salary of this highway Commissior- er, under the new road law, will be $100 per annntn, the term of office beginning April 1, 1912 and continuing for four years. The Commisaioi>?r will be under a 000 bond, and will perform the duties formerly intrusted to the county supervisor. Colleton county has a new road law, following in the main of the suggestions contained in The Press and Stardard. the only difference being that the Highway Commission er or Supervisor Is appointed upon the recommendation of the'delega tion instead of being elected by the people. Under this new law each town ship will have one township com missioner to be elected at the pri mary In August, to serve two years, the salary being two dollars per dey for actual services rendered, rot to exceed fifty dollars in any one year.
