Padgett’s letter in last issue has struck a popular chord. Many £men have expressed them selves as being favorably impressed with it. As an issue his ideas beat stock law. Hi Mr. Candidate, stiffen up your backbone. No voter who thinks will support a man w ho only wears a cot ton string in his back. Have opin ions and express them or quit the race. In other words,.be a man. \W y / Mr. Voter: If you find a candidate is trying to dodge an issue, or get on the fence, scratch him. Pull him off the fence. Find out where he stands and vote accordingly. Be ware of the man who makes many promisst. He’s,fooling you. * - -| i " • it i LET STOCK LAW LUST. right to know what you are doing. The town is really a big corporation and you ahimld submit your rej^rte to the stock-holders. If it is a matter of cost,' we will ^ * V"*. / reduce our charges to a minimum and thus enable you to inform the holders of atock in the corporation what its officers are doing v • — \ * • /■ ' LAW NOT TO BLAME. The people of St. Pauls, who as sembled at Adams Run Friday for the purpose of discussing the ques- tion of road legislation, were not very well posted on what the present road law is, and. had contracted quite a bit of opposition to it. This mis understanding was perhaps quite natural, and doubtless there are many persons pver the county labor ing under the same difficulties, for the reason that the road law has been rtiodified by the supervisor and county board in its application, and the people do not know w hat to ex- pfcct. The main thing which seems to have given the imwt concern is the fact that the epunty board have given out as their intention to work each main road leading out from Walterboro five miles befortf any other road is worked. This is direct ly in violation of the letter of the law\ which is very plain on this point, ar.d gives room for the criti cism of Walterboro which one hears. There are other points where the law is mdrS or less modified, w hich is bound to do one' of two things either bring the county board fhto difficulties, or the law into disrepute. County Commissioner Platt and Rep resentative Sanders. What more do they want** .When this section puts. up a man for office which it will support itself such candidate is -. 'j? . . f invaiiably elected. If St. Pauls will not put forwrard men St. Pauls will support, how can St. Pauls blame the rest of the county for not voting for them? < There is a tendency and a desire on the part of the officials to \ S favor this territory in every way possible. We would suggest that the gentle men of this community whq feel they are being discriminated against in any way. make a thorough inves SHERIFFS SALES x The follow ing tract* of land have been le\ied upon and I will sell fbr taxes salesday in September, 1910.
