Cane grindings and candy pullings are ail the go these days. Chrystal Mean of Moselle passed through our midst a few days ago. W. M. Godley killed a fine deer on the 25th inst. The others in the drive were S. A. Crosby and Bud Benton. Miss Jannie Byrd had business in Walterboro last Saturday. Vedantis and Harry Harvey visited their father on the Island near Char leston. .. Dr. and Mrs. Willis Hudson of Ruffin passed through our midst one day this week. Miss Nellie Ulmer of Ruffin has been spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. Jim Felder, near here. J. B. Godley and sons, Oscar and Dan, and daughter, Miss Ruth, vis ited Varnville a few days ago. Rev. and Mrs. Burgess spent Sat urday night very pleasantly at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Rentz. M. B. Providence, Nov. 28, Spffcial:— The social interest of the Providence community centered in the marriage of Miss Laurie May Smoak. daugh ter of"5frarTd Mrs" G' L Smoak, to Mr G E Ackerman, Wednesday, November 17th at 2:30 o’clock, at old Providence church the ceremony being performed by the Rev. J P Inabinet. ( The “old church” never looked lovelier than on this occasion. The color scheme was white and green! White chrysanthemums were used in profusion’. Ferns, palms etc. were so arringed as to lorm a screen for the organ, from which came forth the beautiful music furnished by Miss Blanche Risher, Just be fore the arrival of the birdal party Hearts and Flowers’ was beautifully rendered, and during the ceremony the soft strains of “Melody of Love” floated through the building. The couole stood directly under an arch < f pure white, from which was suspended a horseshoe of white chrysanthemums, and above which was another horseshoe which seemed to hold together the festoons of white and green which reached to the four comers of the church. The bride’s only attendant was her dame of honor, Mrs Jno T Kel ley, who wore a lovely creation of blue crepe de chine, with lace garni tures and carried an arm bouquet of golden chrysanthemums. At the first strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march came Messrs Robbie Ackerman and A M Addison, who were ushers. At the altar, the bride, who entered with her dame of honor, was met by the groom, with his beat man, Mr Freddie Ackerman. She was radiantly beautiful in her bridal robe of white satin with real lace trimmings. Her veil was held in place with orange blossoms, and she earned a bouquet of white chrysanthem urns. Immediately after the ceremony Mr and Mrs Ackerman left for Cot- tageville, wnere they will make their future home. The bride was one of the most pooular young ladies of the com munity. and will be greatly missed by her host of relatives and friends. The boys are making use of these winter nights chasing foxes. The good old Christmas times are rapidly approaching, how fast the time flies but ‘alas, “time and tide wait for no man.” But are the young folks planning to spend the celebration of "Jesus Christ” by dancing or are they planning to spend it by going to some place of worship? 1 hope that they will put their time to the last named course, the course of the “Lord.” We are very glad to state that Miss Minnie Crosby, who has been quite ill for some time is rapidly re gaining strength. Sugar boilings are in rapid prog ress in this section at present—hog killing time next. The Sunday school at Carters Ford is at present doing a fine work, undqr the care of the able Superin- tendeht, Bro. W. W. Cone, who is an able worker in Sunday school work, and besides him we have some who take a very active part in tlie work. We have just installed a large heater, which will add much to the comfort anil benefit of the Sunday school. ' Mr. and Mrs. H. M.
