PADGETT GRAPHICALLY DIS CRISES HIS SENSATIONS WHEN SHOT. Editor Press and Standard :--Some of your readers may be curious to know how it feels to be shot without experiencing the delightful sensa tion themselves, and having just passed through such experience 1 1 ought to know. At first there is very little feeling about it, in fact, yoti hardly know what has happened, xou are not left in doubt long, how ever, as your feeling soon returns increasing like unto the decimals of old—in ten fold ratio. Every nerve, e^ry fiber is in the most excrutiat- ing misery imaginable. When you fully realize what you have done and contemplate the possible results —iocklaw or tetanus, bipod pniein, gangrene, etc- and note the loss of blood, it causes a kind ef fainty feel ing to come over you. Natime for fainting, however. A doctor must be had and a greater ordeal must be gone through with; that of being operated upon. “Only a slight wound,” says the doctor, “will soon have you O. K.” thereby calling into service all your latent will-pow er before placing you upon the table. This, they call putting you to sleep, bat tis a misnomer, you are not asleep. You talk you “cuss” tor speak, and it takes several to hold yen down, thus proving that you feel the knife, but you are merci fully relieved of being conscious of any pain. 1 would call it a state of being between natural slumber an 1 death. When you regain conscious ness and realize what has heed done you have other besides physical pain to suffer- that of remose or some thing. “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these; it might have been.” Yes, it might have been different with me if 1 had been a little more careful. But what is the use, I have received some benefit from beiag shot. It has * broadened my sympathies, increased my already large stock of experience, and I will ever here after, have more consideration for the feeling of the lit- tie birds. We nave heard, Mr Editor, of rattlesnakes being used aa a means of grace, and Bill Arp tells us of one old sledge mounting the Grace of God into the unbeUeving soul of one “Devil Bill,” but we are about the only one, unless it be some of the yankees during the Civil war, who has been helped with a load of shot. But before we go any farther, let me state that we are not a sub ject for any further experiments along that liae. We are satisfied, at leapt, satisfied. In course of time we may so far forget ourselves as to tinker with the hind-leg of a kicking mule, or we may even monkey with a buzzsaw, but we will certainly never again place our hand over the muz zle of a loaded gun.
