ing his seventieth birthday. This
was quite a surpise to him. He has
four children and six grandchildren

in all.
At about 12 o’clock dinner was

And the day. in general, was spent

business centre, as well as a summer
resort. Everything is mast con
veniently situated, and the fine
water is its most beneficial feature.
It is such a treat to be able to ex
plore the beautiful grounds in and
around General Sinclair’s plantation.'

Quite a sad accident occured here
Saturday p. m. Mr Smith of Nash
ville Tenn. who was foreman of
the bridge gang while returning
from work was thrown from a lever-
car and only lived a few hours. The
heartfelt sympathy of the entire
community, go out to his wife in her
bereavement.
Miss Gertrude Keels of Harleyville
is visiting Miss Annie Canady.
Miss Bertha Baker of Harleyville
has just returned to her home, after
a weeks stay with her aunt Mrs
Winters.
One of the most select parties that
has been in Eutawville for quite a
while was that given on last Mon
day evening by Miss Annie Canady
in hopor of her guest Miss Gertrude!

Our little "city” is real lonely this
week, as so many of our young folks
are attending gala week. It was
quite a disappointment to me to
hnd that l would not be able to at
tend; as 1 was anticipating seeing
the end to come, and said, "Its the
Lord’s will, not ours, be done.”
Mrs. Gruber was in her sixtieth
year and had been a consistent mem
ber of the Baptist chureh for thirty-
nine years. She had lived a pure,
spotless, Christian life, and was al
ways ready to do her duty. She had
a big heart and a helping hand to
all who needed her She had been
married over forty years, and leaves
to mourn her loss a devoted husband,
four daughters, one son, an aged
mother, ard sixteen grandchildren.

to rest in the Gruber burying ground.
She told her husband just two
days before the end came, that it
was so good to pass away resting so

disorderly conduct carried on at
several of the society meetings. You
don’t know how it pained me to
hear this, as it wits improving so
much when I left home. It seems
as if some cannot set* and realize the
repeated and earnest efforts of your
president as well as those who are
trying to improve. I myself miss
those meetings very much, and al
though 1 have not l>een able to meet
with you in a long while, and guess
I won’t for a much longer time still
1 often think of you all, still feel
