Welcome to Walterboro Monday.
Queen o’ the May—we salute thee.
Gome to town Monday, and feel
at home. - . „
We collected a subscription last
week and it was not yours, was it?
Walterboro is a beautiful little
city in her natural spring freshness
and color—a May festival dress.
YOU BET SHE WILL.
Walterboro is to have a May festi
val. Wonder if “Tube Rose” from
“Run Gulley” will be there?—Lau
rens Advertiser.
Colleton county will watch Rice
Pflbrh Friday to see whether or not
educational interes s shall take a
bdsk seat. Be careful how vou vote.
There will be a total eclipse of the
moon visible here June 3 just one
month after’the May Festival which
wHl eclipse anything ever attempted
here before.
A contribution for the monument
to the Women of the Confederacy
fmm the old soldiers’ pension fund
V O
would be hallowed, and all the more
valued by the few old survivors of
tho Women of the Confederacy.
OUR FAME SPREADS.
The Civic League? We have heard
of such an organisation, but have
failed to notice the results of its' la
bors. The court house square is
pleading for improvement, and just
a few dollars and a little energy will
accomplish the task. Why not get
busy? What is the use wasting
tune?—Laurens Advertiser.
To the Laurens Advertiser: We
hereby extend an invitation to the
sage of Scuffletown and the hero of
Jacks township to be present at our
May Festival and meet ’Tube Rose”
of “Rum Gulley,” and “Daisy Bell”
of Hardescramble. But we will
warn the editor of ye Advertiser
that these ladies are not to be en
ticed to Laurens county to live, also.
money is contributed if it is “gore
aft^jr.”
Hope Cofteton will give not less
than $250.00. *
Yours very tub’, -
William E. Gonzales.
We feel that it is a duty of the
people of Colleton county to aid in
making this free will offering, for as
Mr Gonzales truly says: ‘Mn no
county did the women do more dur
ing t$e jrar and in the awful days of
poverty after the war.” ,
AO the counties have eontribuuted
to this fund but Berkely, Colleton
and Georgetown! - Con we afford to
let~t}us'pleasant duty longer be ne
glected? Wa are expected to con-
tribete,tg250, which is a small sum
and it can be raised by fifty persons
contributing $5 each; one hundred
srsons, $2.60 each; two hundred
and fifty, $1 each. Surely there are
that many penona in Colleton county
who will come forward and give
this much. We must raise it. Each
week the amounts contributed and
the names of the contributors will
f 4
be published in this paper till we
have the amount needed.
In order to facilitate this work we
are going to designate some persons
in several sections of the county to
collect this fund.

thing HOW TO GET THE BIG END OUT OF
YOUR EGG BUSINESS.
We have many large private customers to whom
we ship. When their orders come in for 5, to, or 15

MEMORIAL TO WOMEN.
We have been “laying up” to be
gin agitating the propriety of the
people of our county raising a fund
to aid in establishing the Memorial
to the women of the Confederacy,
started some time ago by The State.
For various reasons we have been
putting off this appeal, but the fol
lowing from a personal letter from
Wm. E. Gonzales editor of the State,
<r
makes it imperative to do something
now.
Mr Gonzales writes: “what is the
matter with Colleton? Not a dollar
