I WILLIAMS SIFTINGS. (Written for last week.) Williams, Mar. 29, Special: —There has been an abund ance of rain lately, never saw so much in my life. The far mers can do nothing but wish and wait, and most of them will have their corn to plant over. Mr Editor, can you beat this? J T Garris made a turnip that weighed ten and one half pounds. Some folk might think it is false but come and see, it is true. O’Quin Bros, have moved their store nearer the depot, and they like their location very much. Mrs Padgett’s sister and mother were her visitors this week. They were indeed welcome at our place and we hope they will come again soon. Miss Lockey from North Carolina spent Thursday and Friday with Misses Pearl and Audrey Garris. , , Our school is getting along fine, but we are indeed sorry that Misses Adams and Rob ertson had to be called away on account of sickness. Words are inadequate to express our sympathy. They have our prayers and good wishes for the speedy recovery of their loved ones. Miss Ramsey had to leave school because of her mother’s ill health. We miss the girls and want them to come back to school again, so that we can have a nice commence ment Miss Smoak, one ot our teachers, gave a nice little party for her room Thursday night at the home of Mrs Warren. The refreshments were ice cream, cake, fruit and candy. The children played until eleven o’clock, and all say that they never had a “bigger” time. We were very sorry to hear of Little Marie Wolfe^s sudden illness, and we trust that ere this she is her dear sweet self again. Mrs Reemes and Mrs Pate of Colleton spent Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs J T Garris. . Some real nice music rendered by Mrs Reemes was greatly enjoyed by all. She and Miss Lockey leave next week for Philadelphia. We are certainly sorry to have them leave so soon. With best wishes from. A Reader. Special:—The farmers in this community have very cheerful countenances, but we are afraid that they are only tem porary, owing to the great amount of rainfall which is proving very unprofitable for thepotato crops. The members of the Ladies Aid Society were entertained at the home of Mrs T W Blitch Tuesday p. m. Luncheon was served, and a “join in chat” was greatly enjoyed. Mr Bartell, familiarly known as ' Harry,” has gained greatly in avoirdupois since his return to this country’. Cabbage cer- v ainly must be nourishing. We are glad to have Rich ard Hughes with us again this season. He will undoubtably keep things cool, as he has charge of the refrigeration. Mr and Mrs L G Owens of Walterboro passed through this section last Monday. DEATH OF ELI GARTER The angle of death visited the home ol B B Avant on the 21st day of March at 6.20 o’clock, and took away our grandfather, who was seventy- nine years old. He leaves one sister, seven sons and four daughters with many other relatives and friends to mourn his death.
