The Press and Standard:—We have been en joying very fine weather around this section fo^aome time, so 1 guess Mr Kain thinks ik. abffct time for him to put in his ap pearance, and he is certainly do ing his best today, but then we most be content to give op one day at least for rain, as we know it will make the flowers all the brighter wheo “Mr Soil” comes again, and there are a great many flowers too, especial ly by the road-side, that greet both with joy. * I was very glad to see by last week’s issue that “An old friend” has started up afresh to write the news of her section, hope she will keep it up, and as wo are very near neighbors, am v>ry glad to Leur that she expects to haye a plentiful vegetable gar den. We Were glad to Bee the liev. Mr Baker at church last Sunday, evening though the rain kept many from attending. He spent Monday in visiting local friends. We certainly hope that our next preachiug day will be a good one. We have just received the sad news of the death of Mrs C B LaRoche. which occurred at her home on Toogoodoo, on Friday the 19th inat. The funeral will take place at the Swinton Bury ing ground on Sunday. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved boaband and ton. We were very glad to see Mr Boiler at the church Friday p. m. in compliment of the choir prac tice. Mrs L E Baldwin spent all of last week in the “City by the Sea” with her home folk. I still hear whispers about a dance to be given at Meggett jnst after Lent, and hope H will bo as good as all the folk antici pate. Mrs William Campbell and little son, Willie, spent Thurs day in Charleston. Mr and Mrs Ashley Peoples, of Rantowles, spent Sunday in town with relatives. H B Ackerman spent Sun day over Caw Caw Swamp. Miss Lucy Martin of Jack- Sonb9ro visited friends here Sunday. Miss Ida Seimers spent Sun day in town. Mr and Mrs R Lee Rodgers are visiting their mother, Mrs Julia Rodgers. Mrs Rodgers was formerly Miss Daisy Brandt of Charleston. She is a most charming young woman, and we are always glad to have "hen in our midst. Rev and Mrs A Sassard are the guests of H B Ackerman this week. Rev Sassard will preach here at the Methodist church Sunday. Mrs Charity Steedley. died at the residence of her sister, Mrs Theresa Smith, near Smoaks, Sunday morn ing, after an illness of several weeka. She was buried at the Smoaks ceme tery Monday morning. ^ Mrs Steedley had reached the ripe old age of eighty yean, and has lived a useful life. She was twice married once to Mr Nathanil Dene, and the second time to Mr Moeea Steedley. She had no children of her own but had adopted several, whom abe reared to useful men and women. Besides numerous other relatives she leaves a brother, D E Smook. and two listen, Mn Lizzie Smook, and Mn Thereat Smith, to mourn her loss.—Branch ville Journal. jambs a.
