we ought to have been reaping
the largest profit in the way ol
reduction of taxes, the tax levy
was 17 3 4 mills.
19C7, wheu tho dispensary
money is clean gone forever and
we are building rock roads in the
comity, our tax levy was 15 1-4
mills.
The county levy for these
jears was as follows: 1804,
mills; 1006,3-12'mills; 1000, 4
mills; Ilk7, 3 1-2 mills. So you
see we are pMying|less now for
ordinary county expenses than
we were whrU'We were getting

Do you say say, how's that? 1
auswer, 1 can’t explain, except
oo the grouud. which alomst
looks superstitious, or miraculous
as you may call it, that money
made out of liquor is the hardest
mouey to keep and use to any
real profit of any money iu the
world.
Oar observation has been that
hardly an) fortune built on
whiskey proves lasting. Leav
ing out of the question that our
capital of nearly a million is
gone, and worse than gone, it
looks as tho w* had gotten well
nigh no goed out of (he interest
on it. At least we are running
the county cheaper and better
without it* even tho everything
the county government buys of
hires is very much higher t! an
we had the dispensary. But the
▼iew taken so far of this financial
feature of the dispensary is the
narrowest view possible. The

LEFT ON HER DOORSTEP
FOR THIS MOTHER
Mr** A (« l uson, of Livermore,
Cal., writes: “I picked up from
my doorstap one day a little book
in which 1 smiu became very
much interested. My little girl
of five years of age had been
troublfdfora long time with
loss of appetite, extreme ner-
vcuosness and undue fatigue.
She was all rundown and in a
very delicate condition.
“this little book was very com
prehensively written, and told of
the new (method of extracting
the, mediciral elements of the
cod’s liver from the oil, eliminat
ing the obnoxious oil, which is
so hard for children to take.
* 4 Just vhe thing,’ said I, ’foi
my little daughter,’ and I im
mediately went for a bottle of
Vinol. lt| helped her wonder
fully. She has gained rapilly iu
flesh and strength, and she does
not take cold half so easily.
“I am extremely grateful for
tho good it haa done her, and 1
hope other mothers who have
weak, delicate or ailing children
will be benefited by my exper
ience and just give Vinol a trial.”
Vinol is sold in WalterbOro by
John M Klein.

WHY DO ITT
It is sometimes the case that a
man gets in advance of his country
or his church; in such cases he natu
rally arouses antagonism but among
thinking men it is antagonism of
thought, methods and principles,
ng the little and unthinking it
mes a personal nature—it is
antagonism to the man—desperate
efforts are made to discredit the
man in order to defeat lua work.
