By an unmistakable majority the new naycr and Wordens were elected. Only one of the members of the retiring ooonoil was re elected, B L Fraser. It seemed that the voters wore determined to elect new officers all the way through, D B Black, and ▲ K Beach, members of the old ooMcil, were defeated, probably not beoadae the voters hod any objection to thorn but because of this desire for aobaoge. The following result of the election tells the story: FOR INTENDANT. X Ladson Fishburne 101 Dr. W. B. Ackerman 20 X B. Webb 14 S. M. Crosby 19 C. C. Tracy 7 J. S. Jackson 25 FOB WARDENS R. L. Since 1905 he has been captain of the Hayward Riflemen and waa admitted tothe bar a few months ago, forming a law partnership with his fkther, Hon. Wm J Fishburne, nndnr the firm name of Fiahbume and Fishburne. Uept Fifhborne is only 24 yean ol age, and is a young man of many sterling qualities. That he received such a flattering vote over men of popularity aud| influeuoe attests the esteem in which he is held. The memben of council are all progressive business and profemioo- *1 men. The voters have chosen well, and it is safe to predict a successful administration. The old council will hold its last meeting Friday night, and'the newly elected council will aasutpe charge June 1st. - • ^ • Mist Ida Timmons Dead Mias Ilda Timmons diod yes terday at Riverside Infirmary, Charleston at twelve o'clock of gastritis, she had been ill for about five weeks, and as a last resort was taken Monday totbe infirmary in Charleston, to un dergo an operation. She stood the trip well, bat gmdally grow worse, until the end cams at noun yesterday. Her remains will be taken to Florence, her old home, for inter ment at Hopowall church. Mias limmons was the sister of Mrs. F A Dronnan, aad had made her home with her sister. She wa« about twenty-five years old, amt was loved bj all who knew her. ^ Bev. and Mrs Drennan left this morning to accompany the remain! to Florence. meeting would be in the morning hour, and in the afternoon would follow speeches on education anu prohibition. In the abeence of the expected speaker for the addrem of welcome, Hon. D. L. Smith was called on, snd delivered an earnest and patriotic address, which was well received. Col. C. G. Hender son followed in an addrevs to the Veterans and the Ladies, in his u.*.ual happy manner, . amid .much applause. And Rev. F. O. S. Curtis, who was called out by the veterans, gave a beautiful and interesting descrip tion of the battle of Fredricksburg.in which he was engaged, which elicit ed much merriment, as well as a deep pathetic interest. The ladies present sang ’ Tenting on the old Camp Ground”, and other airs, in fine style. And then the dinner, and Ah! what dinner; It was enough for a regiment, and consisted of almost everything that could tempt the palate. Too much praise cannot be given to opr friends in this portion of the county for the great succ ss which attended this meeting; and which we are told, is an annual affair with them. A The storm in the afternoon broke up the meeting, which caused great regret to all. ' ' ^ ClVIu LEAGUE TO BE ORGANIZED. Several public tpimed ladies have taken up the matter of organising a Civic Improvement Society and have met wito such inoem that a meeting for organization will be held in the uear future. They are already plan ning several schemes for improviug the town among these being tbs lay ing out of a park, beautifying the streets etc. Among those actively at work for this League are Misses Lillian and Margaret Murphy, Mrs Jno.
