Cripple Creek, Colo., May 11.—The beginning of work on the long pro- jected Cripple Creek drainage tunnel was celebrated here Saturday by fes tivities participa.ed in by the most prominent mining and business men of Mie leading cities and towns in the state. On the morning of April 18 the Angel of Death visited eur peaceful and great neighborhood and claimed for its victim Mrs Malinda Carter the oldest resi dent of this section. She lived a long life of usefulness in both her family and neighborhood. She was a member of-The Ml. Carmel Methodist Church. Her remains were laid to rest in the '•v Mt. Carmel grave yard April 29 in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing friends and relatives Her death though a heavy blow was not unexpected; she had been confined to her room for six long weary weeks, all was done that a good nurse and a faithful doctor could do, but, alas; when death comes theie is no medicine that will accom- I ,’t plish any thing,- She leaves to monrn her death two brothsrs, W R and Jacob Padgett, three children, and a host of friends gnd relatives, but they monrn not as those who have no hope bat they have the sweet assurance of knowing where to find her. .
