WEONUSDAV OCT. 3. 1006 Is not Colleton county the best and grandest place to live yon know? If it is not yon should move out— skidoo. We are glad to see several car loads more of gravel at the depot. It will be very nice when every street is covered. With the county out of debt, whatf is to prevent the supervisor from lighting the courthouse with electricit/ or acetylene gas? We appreciate such kind remarks as the following from one of onr readers: “Your paper, according to my judg ment, is greatly improved since yon Adopted it, and I congratulate you on the war yen get it up, and the very «videut interest yon take in making it look up-to-date and clean ” We are informed, that this year's taxes will pwy all county indebtedness aui leave a cash surplus of Mveral thousand dollars, We congratulate the county, on the consummation that has Jong been devoutly wished. We also con- grain late onr efficient auditor for keep ing the returns up, and onr efficient tmi«rvisor and oonoty commissioners for keeping the expenditures down. THE SUMMERVILLE NEWS COM TIBNTS ON RECENT EDITORIAL. A short while ago we made a tenta tive offer to lend a set of managers to Summerville in order that there might be held in Summerville “one honest and and qniet election." The Summerville New* commenting on onr offer gives ns a my intareating statement of political conditions in the metropolis ot Dor cheater county. The conditions there seem to be vrorae then we thought they were; and instead of only a 'wet of managers, we believe it would he necessary in order to accomplish any good, to “lend" Summerville oar crack military com- l*hir. W hat has the PreM end Standanrd to say about this? Of coarse we shall be glad if Dorehes- ter Club can get along withent ontside assistance. We were afraid onr friends over there would get in'o trouble when 1 they left us. It is not characteris tic of Colleton's voters to be co-erced or oat witted, and doubtless it fs a scurce of trouble to our contemporary that their “inheritance from old Colleteu” insists npon maintaining its rights. We cannot say whether Colleton has “been generons to the extent of lending" Dor chester clnb “some voters in the past," nor can we say whether or^not these votes came from Sheep’s Island, Was- samassaw, or Cam’s Crots Roads. Or do these votes go to the Carolina and Snmmervilie clubs? Twelve to fifteen p miles, appears to ns a good distance to go to have the privilege of voting in another county, and we would ask ^ 0 Colleton’s voters to keep away from Dorchester clnb, in the future. If yon get into trouble over there, friends, the sheriff of Dorchester count/ would be sure to arrMt yon (if you did not ob ject). Meanwhile we would ask onr contemporary to remember our offer of the managers, or militia, and to call on ns when in need. Death of Mra E. P. HuUou.
