Being on the ssbore of Hampton Roads, on the northwest corner ol the grounds, there will always be plenty of cool, refreshing air blowing in from the famous waterway. A spacious i>lay ground is adjacent, in which children •can play uud romp, with niucli to <lelight them close at band. Mothers who cannot leave their children at bottie will find in the Mothers and Children’s Building attendants who are skilled in the art of making children happy, with whom they can leave their children while they enjoy . the many interesting features of the Exposition, with every assurance that the little ones are being well provided for. The cottage is sixty by one hun dred feet, and its wide sloping root ana gabled windows are suggestive of oomfbrt and coziness in every ontjine. It is an example of the thoughtful ness of the Exposition management in providing for the comfort of those who will visit the great historical Exposition next year. George B Mathews, the noted painter of large decorative studies, is engaged on a mammoth canvass which is to be exhibited at the James town Exposition in 1907. The pic ture, which will represent General Lee surrounded by the members of fais staff, is to be eighteen feet in length and nine feet high. The stretcher for this enormous cauvas ft si been specially constructed for Mr Mathews, so that it can be token -apart and the picture shipped with out danger of injury. The portrait'oi General Lee and his staff will be exhibited in the Department of Fine Arts, which will ‘Xjntbr&ce the exhibits of paintings, -drawings, engravings, sculpture, architecture, landscape design and photography.
