Those who had received cards to
the entertainment given be the
L’Allegro Clnb fully realized all
they had expected, on New Year’s
evening, when this charming little
organization delightfully entertained
at the home of A C Shaffer.

Promptly at 9 o’clock the recep
tion committee. Misses Emily Bel
linger and Ethel Howell began wel
coming their guests, and very soon
the parlors were quite full of hand
some young men and pretty girls,
with wit and good humor and
laughter The entertainment com
mittee offered games of contest for
which five prises were awarded. Miss
Caroline Gnerry, who is a fine
pianoist, rendered several beautiful
selections during the evening and at
11 o’clock refreshments were served.
The young ladies in charge of this
offered all that was dainty and deli-
cions.* At ISo’clook the soft strains of
“Home, Sweet Home” announced the
parting hour. Good-byes were over
shadowed by best wishes for
1906, and with abnendant thanks to
Mr and Mrs Shaffer for the hospitali
ty of their beautiful home, and con
gratulations to L’Allegro Club, the
guests unanimously declared it a
most charming and entertaining

evening. In the absence of Miss
Brawley, the president. Miss Belle
Sanders, vice president, has presided
during the holidays. The clnb will
meet twice a month during the com
ing year, and though only recently
organized, with their high motto and
aim, there can be only sneoess ahead
of these bright young ladies.
Married—Angnstus Herndon of
Raysor’s Mill, and Miss Annie
Trowell, were happily married last
Sunday afternoon at the home of the
bride’s father, N J Trowell, near
Hendersonville. The bride is a
charming yonng woman and is loved
by all who kn$w her. She is a mem
ber of Great Swamp Baptist chnroh
and was a teacher in the Sunday
school at the time of her marriage.
The groom is a yonng man of good
oharaoter. J S Griffin, Esq., of Wal-
terboro, performed the ceremony.
