It is not so much a matter of how

A gentleman was heard to expre's
doubt as to whether the bond issue for
street improvements would carry a
second time. His fears are groundless,
for the issue will carry. If it
does not it would be disgraceful. And
the expense already incurred, thousands
of dollars, would have to be
paid by the city just the same. Union
would be the laughing stock of all
t -v~ her naighfttrs, and yfrould go badfc'fbr
half a century. It would bury itself,
rhe bontj issue will carry. It should
carry this time without a dissenting
vote.
We may expect to see some bad
streets in Union this winter. Owinir
to the work of putting in sewer lines
and connections, the streets have been
cut up considerably. The street improvement
work having been delayed
the full winter will give us mud in
plenty. But It cannot now be helped.

about the fat times to be brough*
about through protective tariff would
be laughable were it not so serious.

tariff destroys competition, creator
high prices by restricting production,
and the poor pay the bill. Look at
the country today. The farmer's
wheat is down to the bottom. Wages
keep going down. Merchandise i

is "live news," and unconsciously, the
reader fastens his eyes upon th"

hurt thereby We talk a great deal
of nonsense about the dangers of Contamination
from reading. It seem?
that we are like the rogue who sorrows,
not because he is a rogue, but
because he :s caught. The public ofte->

tails are put into cold type. There

is the chief factor in bringing the
criminal to justice. And, anyway, we

the necessity of entering upon a new
policy.
