MEMBER OF ASSOCIATED PRESS The Associated Press Is exclusively en titled to the uae for republication of news dispatches credited to it or not ' "v . si credited in this paper, and also weel news published therein. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1922. The United States refused, nder Republican leatlerstlip, to join the League of Nations. In the meantime, the United States "nits in" upon the consulV.*'on of nations, expresses a preference for this or that nmv; among the nations, and demands a voice in world affairs. It would have been far bettor for our Rood name, and for the peace of the world, had wo gone int> the league. As a matter of fact we are into the world mixup ?very much in. in spite of our refusal to unite with the oth?r nations in the movement. By refusing to ro in we have failed to stay out and hatfe lost the greater part of our influence By meddling in every great question that arises we have sacrificed our selfrespect. There is no entangling alliance .n the League of Nations. It 1 a loose jointed association that ma;> have been dissolved, amended, ma i to serve a great purpose and, had \v entered it, we would have been ul k to maintain our world leadership. More and more it begins to appeal that we were betrayed by selfish p .. iticians in our refusal to join. So long as we intend to do business with nations, so long as we expect to ha.e a voice in world affairs, it is folly to refuse to join the league.
