Statue <*?4H ^ We have had fain almost the entire eek and late Saturday night a very jT eavy rain and wind storm, 1.13 jT lehes here. I have been told that at w* Carlisle it was the heaviest of this ear, and a few miles west of there, & lmost a cloudburst, and that the ^ nmages were great. Some of the ^ uins here last week were very dam- $ ging ones. The farmers around here have v ,bout decided to hoist the white flag ?* o the boll weevil. The weather has ?? >een so wet. The farmers could not ontrol them. They could not hire 1 nuch picking of squares, as August, ^ rou know, is the month when it is ime for the negroes "to walk about." ?& That, most of them will do, even if hey have to eat only "green feed"' mtil it rattle* inside of them like pot iquor in a dog, and "nothing doing." J mc lompaijfii luuctiiig opened nore Friday and I attended. The speakers ?? ill received considerate attention, or o it ltast, if one did not wish to hear & >ne, he did not interupt. I did not ^ jear any "guaa" words, and of course T here was no one drunk. V 1 also went to Carlisle Monday. ' 1 ^ was rained off.of most all farm work. >o took in this, too. This was also ^ a quiet meeting. No cheering to one, ^ making another feel bad. The candi- % dates are beginning to spar, or to use little "pitch forks," but are otherwise V very friendly. Quite a number of ladies were present at both places. I wanted to go to Carlisle, anyway, as ^ it has been a long time since I was % there, and I had to almost be intro- ^ duced to it anew. It has built up so V much, has grown until it is about "as broad as it is tall," so to speak. The revival services at the Pros- ^ byterian church closed last Friday 1 night. The weather wbb very bul J all through, but the congregations V were glad as Rev. T. D. Johnson ?f Woodruff, who did the preaching, preached good sermons, and drew large crowds. He is a fine preacher. Mr. Jno, P. Fant, an engineer on J the Georgia-Central railroad, was visiting his brother, J. McJ. Fant, last week. W. E.
