I ? ? THURSDAY, SETT. 29. 1921. Laws allowed to lit* violated with impunity breeds violation of law. The present wave of violation in respect to the prohibition law will breed lawlessness in otTier directions. Those citizens who would scorn the idea of I conducting a blind tiger and who yet patronize a blind ttger are sowing seeds of lawlessness rtiat will bring forth fruit. The "home brew" squad is sowing seeds of lawlessness in the hearts of their children, and are paving the way for many of their children to fall into a life of criniw and end in a drunkard's grave. The hypo critical church member who continues to violate the law by storing whiskey in his house is making skeptics and lawbreakers of his own children. Thenis no half way ground in the matter It is better to be an open advocate of liquor than a sneaking patron of the blind tiger. We are not alarmed _over the present situation. It is but natural that so sweeping a change as that which came with prohibition should result in a groat movement to annul the law; this is but the reaction. In the long run a sane, honest enforcement of the Taw will result, and many of those who are now lamenting the fact that they have been deprived of their liberty will be loud eet in praise of the prohibition movement. That prohibition has done wonders cannot be denied. Whole counties, where the law is even halfway enforced reveal a splendid result. Only those lawless oo"*ros, where men have been infamous violators of practically all law, is it found that the prohibition law is a failure. And, in such centres, be it remembered, law was a failure before the advent <>f prohi bition. As to the great wave of crime sweeping over the land being charged to prohibition we believe to be a charge that is utterly false. Prohibition has no more to do with it than has the man in the moon. If whiskey flowed freely the crime wave would roll even higher than it does today. Our cat says those who live wantonly are sowing the seeds of eternal regret. Our cat savs h<> nnti>-< th?t iV><. that flows never fails to ebb. * Our cat says he has not yet found a single farmer who agrees to destroy his cotton stalks by October 10. Our cat says cotton stalks destroyed by October 10 will leave very few boll weevils to be picked May 10. ? Our cat says meddlers need not be surprised when they get their finger-, pinched. Our cat says many a kind heart is discounted by a rough exterior. * ? Our cat says no wise general underestimates the strength of the enemy. WL" 1 ? Subscribe to Thp Union Times. ????
