Law to Protect
Servants from Employers
. Buenos Aires, Auk. 26.?The jusw
tices of the peace of the Argentine
' capital have appealed to Congress to
enact laws protecting servants from
employers who neglect to pay them
or who borrow from their cooks to
pay for the elaborate dinners they
given in order to maintain their social
positions.
The justices allege that many who
live surrounded by servants in uniform
and who give great dinners and
whose names are promipent in the
social register are compelled to resort
to these methods in order to keep
up their appearance as social leaders.
The justices attribute this habit of
the social climber of running in debt I
to "a depressing show of folly and j
pretense, an overpowering desire to |
dress well and to prodigality and too j

The Fuerst Frederick regiment, or
iginally GR8 strong, took part in
many engagement in the Revolution.
It participated in tjje battle of Long
Island, and was assigned to the left
wing of Earl Percy's force at the
battle of Foi't Washington. I^ater the
regiment wjftt sent south and eventually
was captured at Yorktown.
Upon the declaration of peace the
survivors wer returned to New York
tp await transportation home and
during this period thev were quartered
in the hut cantonment on the
Dycknian farm.

Hessian Soldier's Belt
Buckle Found

New York, Sept. 20.*?A Hessian
soldier's belt buckle has been found
by historical workers excavating the
site of the Revolutionary war prison
camp on the old Dyckman farm, near I
203rd street.
ine ouckle, of bronze, is in a perfect
state of preservation and officials
of the Field Exploration committee
of the New York Historical
Society say it is one of the few Revolutionary
relics of undoubted Hessian
origin.
The buckle has been identified as
part of the Fuerst Frederick or Erb
Prinz Regiment of Hesse, mercenaries
brought over by the British to
fight Washington's continentals. On
the front of the buckle is engraved
the monogram "F.? F.," surmounted

Turk soldier is a sealed book to any
but those who have lived long with
him. It may be summed up this way.
If told to kill, he kills; if told to advance,
he advances, and if told to retreat,
he 'retreats.
Seldom noisy, singing: only now and
agaip monotonous airs, talking little
after the manner of people who live
in a country of vast distances, his enthusiasms
and his depressions of
spirit don't show in his face.

to believe protested good intentions,
they will put themselves to all sorts
of personal inconveniences to satisfy

get prompt answers of "yes" or "no"
to any request, the stranger believed
to be friendly has his way made easy.
But if he is believed to be unfriendly
then he is sent tht quickest way
home, or if his intentions are regarded
as dangerous he meets with the
harsh treatment ever lurking in the
Turk, and especially reserved for
those who have violated his confidence.
One of the curious sides to the
present war is the pronaeandn ntmlnsfl
the British, regarded as political
enemies, yet for whom the Turks often
have a high personal rgard, established
through pre-war relations.

the British.

beasts that live in the Bronx Zoo ara
preparing for an early and hard winter.
Although they live in luxury
and don't have to worry about where
their next meal is coming from, they
ar<- instinctively hoarding up food.
All classes of animals scent a Stiff
winter, keepers say. The squirrels are
putting in full days storing up unusually
large quantities of nuts. The
prairie dogs, a month ahead of time,
afe secreting lots of food into thei/
underground homes. Robins and blackbirds
are flocking together and showing

for migration to southern climes.
