But it is unwise to do so. It is a waste of time to argue with a man who shouts his words and will not hear a word of your defense, refutation, plea. You waste your breath when you spend time arguing with a man who is completely swallowed up of his own exalted opinion of himself. We need not worry about such men, nor need we fear their influence. They Vill be talking on the opposite side next year just as vehemently as they are now espousing a certain side. Slowly, but let us hope, truly, the i opponents of prohibition are beginning.to realize that they are going to have, a harder job reversing things than they anticipated. The prohibi-l tion movement won after a fifty-year ' campaign. The law is written into constitution. It is stronger today than ever before, in spite of the hypocritical charges made by the liquor in' terests, that prohibition is a farce, vJ*at prohibition is the breeder^of. lawless ness, etc. The country and Bmal! town is set against the liquor traffic, and the large cities will come to it. The only failures -the prohibition law is making are failures wrought by the opponents. The men who say the law is a failure are themselves guilty violators. If reports be true, and'we have no reason to doubt them, the day for better things is fast approaching. The response to President Harding's inquiry as to the willingness with ? which the nations would join in a a conference in the interest of disarmament, is quite gratifying. Fact is, the governments of the world arc upon a quaking volcano. Heavy taxes, constantly growing more burdensome, have brought about the necessity for some move to relieve the hlirrlAr. Sinpp mnra 4-V*an fourths of all the tax burdens result from wars, past, present or future, the one great question before civilization is reduction of armaments. It is either reduce or continue to increase. If the increase continues, the governments will perish under the burden. It is therefore the one thing to do: reduce armaments. When this is done there will be need for only the policing of the nations. A small army will be sufficient for the needs. What do you do with your spare time?- Are you an idler? Do you find joy in folding your hands and doing nothing? If so, you are a "dead one," and are to be pitied. Idleness, except during sleep, does not rest you, pays you no dividends in pleasure, yields you no profit. Just to sit iffiout the house, yawn, mope, growl, does not help you.
