Thursday, July 29,1920. A NEW HOTEL FOK BAMBERG. The coming of the tobacco market to Bamberg has opened up new avenues of necessities in this city. One of these necessities is additional hotel facilities. This matter has already become so apparent that there is definite talk of the erection of a *"* n n n ^ i??~1 1??~ ArMncomprifs ^JLUUjUUV LlUCd I1C1C. iinauov." must positively be mad? at once to care for the stranger within our gates. There is plenty of money in Bamberg, and for the good of the * city, there is no better way of investing some of it than by putting it into a hotel that will advertise Bamberg far and near. People cannot be expected to some here if they cannot get a place to stay. We have known in the past of people leaving town at night because it was absolutely impossible to get a room to sleep in. This is bad; very bad. We know of some towns in the state that make it a point of offering plenty of the best hotel facilities, and this in a large measure covers many of the town's deficiencies. There is ? no doubt about it, the best advertisement a town can make is to furnish ample modern hotel facilities to its visitors. \ Bamberg must have a hotel large > enough to take care of .the people WKA aatma f A f ATTTT^ nnu wuic vv/ ivnu, mi ^ SUPPORT THE WAREHOUSES. "W . * * v . To be the success it should be, the Bamberg tobacco market must have the cordial support of all the farmers. We have in Bamberg two ol . the leading warehousemen in the country, men who have been in .the business all of' their business lives. They know tobacco from A to Z; they have interests at other places, but they have come to Bamberg and are staying here during the selling season in the interest of establishing the best market in the state in Bamberg. They deserve the support of * the people m their efforts. While, of course, in. promoting the interests of the local market, they are likewise promoting their personal interests, surely any man is worthy of his hire. Bamberg has more to gain than either of these gentlemen. The purpose of this editorial is to suggest, and to strongly urge, that every ounce of support possible be given both of the local warehouses. It is absolutely necessary, in order to have a market, that aV least two warehouses must be in competitive business, arid it is to the interest of the market that both warehouses are successful. We mention this lest some of our big tobacco planters unconsciously do an injustice to one or the other of the warehouses. Give . your support to {he market by giving , your support to both warehouses. It takes warehouses to make the market; therefore it is necessary to vfo sustain them. i CHfif-j i i \ Bamberg is fortunate in having warehousemen who are congenial p gentlemen. They are pulling together for the. Bamberg market. In return let our people pull for both of them. k Give them all the patronage you can. \ .. The Bamberg market is very young; it requires nurturing. This is said without a word of intimation*from either of these gentlemen, and we say it simply in the interest of Bam< berg's newest industry. Elizabeth Remained Single. gjjfev'' ' Little Elizabeth Tilton, says Harper's Magazine, had attended school only a few days when she fell ill. When she returned she brought'a note from her mother signed, "Mrs. Banes." The teacher asked for an explanation. "It's this way," said Elizabeth, leaning toward the teacher with quite a confidential air; "my mother got married again, but I didn't." A Knock for Suffrage. \ With a wild shriek the train dashed through the county station without pausing. "I say, porter," cried a * ' startled passenger on the platform, "isn't that the 4:15 to Widdicombeleigh? Why didn't it stop here?" The porter shook his head. "It . don't stop here nowadays, sir," he/ explained. "The lady engine driver has ! quarreled with our station mistress." Large supply of cotton picking; sheets just received. G. 0. The clerk of a court in the west which examines many applicants for American citizenship, tells of one alien who had not much difficulty in filling out the question blank given to him. The first three lines thereof bore these questions: "Name?" "Born?" "Business?" The alien answered in these terms: "Name?Max Guttman." "Born?Yes." "Business?Awful." ^ i i m1 Power of Suggestion. The critic seemed struck with the picture. "This snowstorm painting is very fine, indeed," hp said to the artist. "It almost makes me feel cold to look at it.v "Yes, it must be realistic," admitted the other.
