Details* of the Killing of John Dunbar by Richard Youmans. The following testimony was taken at the inquest at Allendale over the -dead body of John Dunbar, who was shot and killed by Richard Youmans, a brother-in-law of Dunbar. The testimony was printed in the Allendale Citizen of last week: Harry W. All, being sworn, says: "1 was standing by the side window of the Greek's (the Allendale Fruit Co.) talking to Dr. B. J. Hammett, Mr. Graham and Mr. Goodwin, and I saw Tr*v?r? Dnnhar stftn off the sidewalk 1/i-L.AJL ^ aad' turn toward the right. As soou as he did this I heard some one say, 'Look out, John,' and about the same time John Dunbar said, 'Oh, he's going to shoot me,' and threw his righl hand to his right side. Then the shot was fired. I then went and toot the gun away from Youmans. I die not see the gun fire, but saw it coming down and saw him trying to loac it again. I took the gun away fron him and said, 'Richie, what do yoi mean by doing this?' and he said 'Harry, I had to. I have been having trouble with him. I had to do it. I then took Mr. Youmans and walkec to the Citizens Bank building witl B. R. Myrick, who had come up ii the meantime. I said to Mr. Myrick 'You stay with Richie while I go ant , see what I can do for John.' Richi< said while I was with him that h< wasn't going to run off, and I wen back with the gun to the Greek'; store. As I reached there they wen T 1 J ^ TTrx Trrnci o K/\n carrying jonn msiue. xic naa a^u dead when they laid him down. That' all I know." Dr. B. J. Hammett told the jur; th? following story: "I was standing in front of the Greek's in the window next to the Gildare hotel talking V Harry All, Mr. Graham and Mr. Good win, facing the street. I heard on gun shot and I saw John Dunbar stag ger toward the middle of the side walk with his right hand at his sid and exclaim, 'My God, he's shot me. I then looked around and saw Harr; going toward Richard Youmans wh had a single barrel shotgun. This i the only gun I saw. I did not hea anything Youmans said. I was talk ing to Mr. Goodwin and others in th party. I saw Harry All take th gun from Richard Youmans." J. B. Goodwin, a traveling man o Augusta said: "Mr. Hammett, Mi I Graham and I were standing ther I talking. At that time I walked > in the Greek's. I heard no words between the parties. When I heard : the shot fired I thought it was a mad j dog someone had - shot at. $t all happened very suddenly and I went f into the Greek's when the firing started." i Mr. Graham, another traveling man, told practically the same story. I There were several other eye-witness1 es. Hugh Reeves was within a few ' I feet of John Dunbar when he was h ~v.?+ nono-ht him as he was fall | ouui auu vu.u3^v, ? *j ing. Reeves went to Millett imme: j diately after the shooting occurred 5: to notify relatives of Mr. Dunbar and : j was not present to testify at the inl j quest. He gave the following state" ment to the Citizen representative: l "I saw Richard Youmans a few min1 utes before the shooting standing in 1 the door of Mr. Bannett's store. When ? John Dunbar came out of the Greek's > the first time I saw Youmans walk up the street slowly all the time look1 ing at John. I notlVed he had plac1 ed the gun on the window ledge. I 1 called John in the rear of the Greek's > | and asked him what was the trouble 1 with he and Richie. He said he did3 n't know, that he hadn't had any 2 trouble with him. I told him he had t better be careful, because Richie 3 looked like he was witching him. I 3 went out of the Greek's and sat down + i ""?nirtr hnnrrl of the car U 1 on tut: 1 Uliumj, s j standing in front of the store, which ( was John's Ford. Mr. Youmans was I y i sitting out there, but when he saw = j John coming out he got up and walkv j ed over to where he had his gun. I 0 j saw him pointing the gun at John -| and I hollered to John, 'Watch out, e | John, he's going to shoot you.' I said '-j this twice and the second time John ;-| turned and saw him, but it was too e late to move. John did not r say anything except something about 'Oh, he's shot me,' and when I asked ej him where he hit him he said in the e i side." ! It is said that Dunbar was not J drinking and was not armed at the * ! time he was shot. Youmans did not e appear to be intoxicated at the time he was arrested. -' "1 iT-"*1* *"",*",",,"", ," ?" , **"",""' "*wasM?*?-i? ??;: . , 4u9gtRWK-JE?via':;: \.-, . ; - . *svo v j v- ^ >' ^ ^ ^ > rS, PLANS and SfLUMLAlK se Houses, which includes the *ick, Lime, Door 1 this material for a lump sum delivered to your lot.
