Pistols and Rifle Came Into Play in Petty Quarrel Xear Cope. ? i Quite a disturbance was created about two miles on this side of the town of Cope as the outcome of a; difficulty resulting from the trespass-ing of a neighbor's hogs 011 another neighbor's farm and rifles and pis- j tols were brought into play. There: were no casualties among the human; beings and a few hogs are said to j have been slain and Frank Fogle, one j of the parties involved, was taken 1 to the state hospital for the insane j Sunday night. From what could be learned it ap-j - pears that hogs belonging to Frank i Fogle, whose farm joins that of Her-j bert Zeigler, went on the latter'sj plaice and were killed by him and j that when Fogle heard of it he strap- j ped several pistols about his waist j and started to Zeigler's house. Zeig-! ler having heard that he was on the -warpath, took his rifle along when he went out into his field and when i Fogle came up he, Fogle, said nothing but went on and after getting! some distance from Zeigler's home| opened fire and let loose a fusiladei in the direction of the latter's house, j Zeigler went into his home and tel-1 ephoned to Orangeburg to the j > sheriff, who, with Deputy Gillam and! Rural Policeman Sumter Fanning, j wpnt nver and took Fogle into cus-j todv. He was brought to this city and put under a peace bond and another bond for his appearance in court and released. Things seemed to have gone peacefully enough until the next day when Fogle is said to have gone on the warpath again and was reported to be firing %promisciousIy and "cutting up" in general. Another call was issued to the sheriff and Fogle was again taken into custody and brought to this city. After an examination by the local physicians he was taken to Columbia and placed in the state asylum. It is said that Herbert Zeigler claims that he had requested Fogle several times to keep his bogs off his land.
