CARLISLE SCHOOL NOTES. Clipped From The Bugle. Capt. Walton On Visit. All of us were surpi. d Wednesday morning to see Capt. Walton on the ^ campus again. CaptaTn Walton was professor of military science and tactics ^after the estabpshment of the R. O. T. C. last year. A few days before school closed in June, Capt. Walton was ordered overseas. He spent two months in France ^ and Germany. While in Germany he stood a physical examination for a parmanent appointment as captain +V.Q Toorniar nrmv As a result of XXX V14v 1 ...% . . this examination Capt. Walton v.*as ordered to the hospital at Fort Me- ; Pherson, Ga.. as soon as he returned to the United States. He is now on sick leave and is stopping by with us before going to his home in Sandusky, Ohio. Band Making Fine Progress. The school band which is now in ; the process of organization, is mak- ' ing fine progress. It requires lots of practice in addition to the regular t lesson hour and the men receive individual instruction under the supervision of Capt. Lanham. The members realize the necessity of a great amount of practice and spend most of their spare time in practicing on the instruments. \ It usually requires a year of care- 1 ful instruction before one is able to J play an instrument well enough to i: fill a place in a band; but with dili? gent effort the band-master expects to make good music by Christmas, if not before. ' New Literary Society. *? On Thursday, October 14th, the student body of Carlisle school held a meeting for the purpose of organizing a new literary society. This was necessitated by the large number of cadets in attendance this year; the number has increased to such an extent that the halls of the Kilgo and to hold all the new members that a?*e to be enrolled. To solve this problem, under the d irection of the Faculty Advisory committee, Capt. Shieder, Captain William Watson, and Captain Herlong, the Sheridan Literary society was organized and members selected from each of the Beach and Kilgo societies to form a nucleus of the new society. Previous to the present scholastic year, the Sheridan Literary society, one exclusively for girls, was a live organization on the rampus. This, however, was automatically abolished on the abolition of the girls' dormitory, since there are only a few town girls attending school. Wishing to commemorate the name \ of the first headmaster of Carlisle, the new society, on the recom- , mendation of the advisory committee, unanimously adopted the name previously borne by the girl's society? namely, The Sheridan Literary society. Foot Ball Eleven. 4 ; Football practice has been going on at a rapid clip on the athletic field since the practice game with Orangeburg October 3rd. The team shows wonderful improvement under the coaching of Coach Herlong and Coach Boland, and a team worthy to represent the Old Gold and Black is expected soon to be rounded into tiptop shape. At present there are two teams with reserves on the side lines fighting for a place on the varsity eleven. The men have realized thaf there is much hard work before them before they can be transferred from a bunch of greens into a successful eleven. Among the new men are Dan West and S. Shealv, who are showing 4 unusual pep and stickability in the dally practice. Personals. ?Mr. and Mrs. F. S.
