Barnett, formerly of Barnwell; Edwin Bruce,, of ^ Bamberg; Bob Jennings, of Orangeburg^' and Tiny Edwards, son of a , former pastor of the Williston Bapflat chprch. Barnwell, Bruce and ? '_ Barnett were in the most advanced lines and did good service. They did not know what fear was. Browning, jrho is acknowledged to be the best . scout officer in the regiment, was sick * in the hospital at the'time recovering from the flu. Carter Price was and is now a member of my signal section that did such fine work. He was one of ui the telephone men. He was not afraid. His section was at the head of the column coming down the road that got so many shells. Carter is stronger and in better condition than when he joined at Camp Jackson. Nothing stops him or seems to worry him. He takes everything smiling, come what may. Angus Patterson is a member of > the supply detachment with this battalion and is doing fine work. He did not go "over the top" with us, as that was not his place, but he , brought supplies up under heavy fire and wofked for days and nights pass? ing over roads that ? were heavily shelled. Angus has always been acAnntnmpri tn hnviner a his: time, and ~ "7rr ? - o you would be surprised to see how he has taken to this work. We marched back from the front to Sommedieu on November 16th and left there on the morning of the 18fh and made a hike of about 150 v miles to this place and reached here on the 3rd instant. I have had very few letters from Barnwell. I received a nice long letter from Ed Holman a short time ago and will write to him in a few days. Show him this letter, /will you? ? When I started this letter I did not intend to write you a book, but just got started and could not find a stopping place. Give my very kindest regards to - Deason and remember me to any other friends. Now that the war is over I am anxious to get back home again and make another start. Yours very truly, JAMES A.
