Thursday, June 8, 1916 Roosevelt and Hughes seem to b the predominant figures in Chicag this week, Roosevelt being th "strong man" of the Bull Mooser and Hughes the bulwark of the Re publicans. The nominations wil take place the latter part of th week. It is nothing more than i guess as to whom the Republican and the near-Republicans will nomi nate, but we will hazard the predic i? tion. that Roosevelt will not be in it. Lord Kitchener is the first of th war giants to give up his life in thi present war. There is doubtless i great feeling of despondency all ove Great Britain over this disaster Kfitchener was a great soldier and j great statesman, and the loks to th< British people is heavy, yet his deatl will no doubt go a long way towar< awaking Britain from her apathy ii this war.
