An event of interest on last Fri day evening at Wesleyan colleg (Macon, Ga..) was the joint gradual ing recital by Miss Eleanor Ferril 4 pianist; Miss Thelnia Faust, violin _ 1st; and Miss Frances Fau^t, accom panist. The county chain gang is now i camp not far from Denmark, and th road from that town to the Barnwel county line is being worked. Mavfield. of the hostess society, extended greetings to the delegates and visitors. Mrs. J. R. Fixer, of Columbia, State corresponding secretary of the W. M. l\, a fluent speaker, gave an instructive talk on "The Institution ?Its Significance." Also a talk on 0 "Programme Making; Use of Charts. Efficiency by the Use of Standard of " Excellence." Mrs. J. D. Chapman, of Greenville, r president of the South Carolina W. e M. U., gave thoughtful and comprek hensive talks on "Plans of the Union. Our Home Land for Christ?the e Methods, Plans and Aims From S. B. e C. Standpoint." Mrs. George Davis, of Orangeburg, State Y. W. A. and G. A. superine tendent, held a conference and trainr ing class for Y. W. A. and G. A. workers, in which she instructively and entertainingly brought out rhe plans and aims of this branch of W. M. U. work. .Mrs. Carpenter, of Georgetown. 1 State superintendent of R. A., the newest department of W. M. U. work, ^ ably presented this phase, making an ? earnest plea for the training of our p boys. r Mrs. Joel T. Rice, of Belton, State * mission study leader, and the former teacher of many women of this State, made an intelligent and earnest plea for more knowledge and preparedness by means of mission study books and other material easily obtained? 8 whereby developing greater interest ' and obtaining results in this great ' work of missions. Miss Emmaline Thornhill, State board missionary and a forhier training school girl, presented in a pleasing way the "Ultimate Aim of Personal Service-Soul Winning." Mrs. Hatcher, of Johnston, State Sunbeam leader, known throughout S. B. C. bounds for her development of Sunbeam work, was detained on account of sickness, but sent an enennraeine messaee. which was read & by .Mrs. T. J. Quattlebaum, of Ridge ^ Spring. Mrs. Chapman followed with I an interesting talk on Sunbeam work. Mrs. Quattlebaum also read h~** own fine paper on Bible study. The song messages of Miss Xorris, of Edgefield, who knew just how to touch the heart, were full of inspiration. The violin solos by Miss Parker, of Edgefield, were enjoyed by '' all. e Rev. T. J. Posey, of Ward, presented the claims of the Western division school at Seivern, which is the only school of this kind in this part of the State fostered by the W. M. U. Tillman, who got up this splendid pro.gram and presided so 'beautifully Q over the sessions. n On Thursday evening she added a n new feature to institute work by a h radiopticon talk on the holy land, ^ which she visited last summer just rt before the war broke out. This was one of the most pleasing features of the session. The superintendents of the eight intinns in the Western division. Abbeville. Barnwell.
