A gentleman in the city the other day remarked that he had forty-five acres of cotton from which no cotton had been picked, on account of the scarcity of cotton pickers. In an accident on .Main street Saturday, caused by a frightened horse, a negro infant came near being killed. The child was thrown from a buggy, sustaining serious injuries. The following dispensers nave been appointed for Bamberg county: Bamberg, W. G. Hutto; Denmark. J A. Price: Olar, W. C. Kearse; Ehrhardt, J. F. Chassereau; Govan, J. S. Fields. A. W. Hunter has been appointed by the governor as federal election commissioner in place of G. E. Hutto, deceased; H. C. Crum has been appointed State election eommission\ er in place of J. Wesley Crum, Jr., who is disqualified; and Wiley D. Rowell in place of A. G. W. Hill, as State commissioner. Messrs. ' The election commissioners for Bamberg county met last week and made arrangements for the holding of the general election in this coun ty on Tuesday, November 3rd. The managers of election for the various precincts were appointed and other matters transacted. The notices of the federal and State and county elections will be found on another page. There are a number of constitutional amendments to be voted on, all relating to local affairs in one or more counties. The managers are asked to secure the boxes from the court house on Monday, November 2nd. Change in Dispatching Mails. I Mails will be dispatched at the Bamberg postoffice as follows hereafter: Train No. 18. east, at 8:30, a.nj.; train No. 35, west, at 10:50 a. mt; train No. 22, east, at 6:00 p. m.; train No. 17, west, at 7:45 p. m. All rural carriers now leave the at ft:3 0 a. m. Patrons of the postoffice will please note the changes. Baptist Church. I Preaching at the Baptist church Sunday a. m. at 11 o'clock; subject: "Substitution." The Sunbeam society will give a public entertainment at 7:30 p. m. Public cordially invited to attend both services. W. R. MCMILLAN. Motion Picture Theatre. A motion picture theatre will be opened in the town hall on November first byyMessrs. J. G. Black and R. E. Smith] of Beaufort. The town nan win oe useu unui a more suitable location can be secured. Mr. Black states that it is their intention to give Bamberg an up-to-date and modern amusement hall. Work of of remodeling and improving the hall is now being done, and the stairway is being repaired. A fireproof booth for the motion picture machine is being built, and the wiring is being put in. Mr. Black states that all pictures shown have been passed b? the national board of censors, and that the show will be thoroughly clean and in every way entertaining. A four-reel feature picture will be shown on the opening night. Notice.?The ladies of St. John's Baptist church will serve oysters and lots of other good things to eat in the school house on the church grounds Friday night. October 30th. There appeared to he conflicti stories regarding the cause of t homicide. It is alleged that the k: ing was the result of a most revo ing state of affairs. Myers and 1 sons are residents of Bamberg cot ty, a few miles from Williams' hon Myers and his son, Frank, ha been arrested and are in the Orani burg county jail, awaiting a prelir nery hearing. Ellie Myers had r been arrested a day or two ago. It is stated that the men went the home of Williams Sunday moi ing, and upon their arrival fou Williams at the stables feeding 1 stock. They are alleged to ha opened fire upon the negro, riddli him with bullets, killing him instai lv. Williams' daughter, hearing t shooting, appeared in the doorway the house with a rifle in her hai presumably to protect her father, a the men fired upon her, probal causing fatal wounds. A negro b< who was standing near, also receiv a buckshot from one of the gui but it is not thought his injury serious. Epworth League Hapi>enings. For reasons the young people cc sidered good, we did not try to he our meetings regularly through of the summer months. You m question our reason. Well, for 01 all of our officers and many of o members were away for most of t time, for various causes, consequei ly, rather than drag through in half-hearted way, we did not m( each week for most of July and A gust. With the coming of fall, when the seems to be more life within us, a we feel encouraged and inspired begin anew the work which awaits 1 we came together again. The outlook for dependable, effe ive service seems bright. While have given some of our members the Junior-Intermediate chapter, ' have added new names to our roll. Officers recently elected are as f lows: President, Mr. Swain Merchar vice president. Miss Mary Livingsto rec. secretary, Miss Alma Davis; c< secretary, Miss Bessie Lee Blac treasurer, to be elected at one junior supt., Miss Alma Black. There are various committees. The seniors reluctantly gave some of their fellow members to t Junior-Intermediate organizatk since some of them have been fail fill members of our ieaeue. But ' feel that they are in the organizati which is primarily theirs. Now, the thing for y fathers and mothers to do is to sta by your children. Let them feel U you have an ever-growing, deep i terest in their work and the ultimt resulte which are sure to be. The training which com from faithful effort just along tl line between the ages of nine a sixteen years will compensate for the hard work it calls for.
