Aviator Robbins Locates in Gamecock City and Makes Machines. Sumter, July l.?The first aeroplane manufactured in South Carolina has just been completed in Sumter, and the inventor and maker, Ed. A. 'Robbins, flew five and one-half miles in his Sumter manufactured aeroplane yesterday. The 5 1-2 miles were made in 7.34 minutes and he wasn't trying to break any speed records. He ascended to a height of only 500 feet. This is the first time Mr. Robbins flew off the aviation field here, although he has circled around the field several times on experimental tryouts of the machine. The Sumter aviation field has been pronounced by Eugene Ely, Mr. Robbins and many others familiar with such matters as the finest in America. Mr. Robbins is to permanently locate here and manufacture aeroplanes. He is an expert aviator of several year's experience. His aeroplane designs are vastly different from any other make, and he proposes to put on the market a machine that will make aviation safer, more efficient, and much cheaper, so that they will have commercial value and of practically the same use as automobiles.
