For the year ending November 30th, 1905, the county of Bamberg used $66,451.12 worth of liquor. According to the report of the State dispensary commismissioner, the sales of the dispensaries in this county for the year were as fol-, lows: Bamberg, $30,860.26; Denmark, $15,052.68; Olar, $10,157.16; Ehrhardt, $7,772.34; Midway, $2,608.68. Just think of it. Nearly seventy thousand dollars' worth of liquor bought in one year in one of the smallest counties in the State. This is a record that we should be ashamed of. Wanted at Once.?Your order for dry wood. J. H. Murphy. The salaries of the dispenser and clerk at the Bamberg dispensary has been raised. The dispenser now gets $85.00 a month and the clerk $45.00. The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church will meet next Thursday afternoon at four o'clock in the ladies' parlor of the church. A full attendance of the members is requested. If you want to buy some valuable farming lands, read the advertisement of Hon. S. G. Mayfield in another column. He will sell some of his fine lands at public auction in Denmark on Saturday, January 10th. In this issue will be found the total sales of the various dispensaries in this county for the year ending November 30th, but these figures arc not the total sales. They are only the wholesale price of the whiskey bought by the dispensaries. These figures were given out by the State Commissioner, and do not include the profit added by the county dispensaries. So, the amount spent for liquor in this county must be nearer $90,000 than $70,000. December Honor Boll. The books will be opened nest Monday at the store of H. C. Folk. The capital stock is to be $25,000, most of which has been subscribed. We understand that an option has been secured on a desirable lot on Main street, on which a nice bank building will be erected at an early date. This makes the third new bank organized in this county in the last month or so, and Bamberg county will now have more banks, in proportion to territory, than any county in the State. We will then have five banks?two at Bamberg, one at Denmark, one at Olar, and one at Ehrhardt, and yet Bamberg is the smallest county in South Carolina.
