Proceedings of Court. When we went to press last week the case of Snider against the Atlantic Coal Line Railway was being tried. After the evidence of the plaintiff was in, the judge granted an order of non-suit, as the evidence submitted did not constitute a cause action. The case of Rosa Hutto against the Southern Railway for loss of a trunk resulted in a verdict of $250 for plaintiff. The judge reduced the verdict to $185.00, which, if not accepted by plaintiff, will mean a new trial. J. M. Parker against W. L. Stokes et al was a long drawn out case, the jury remaining in the room all night. A verdict of $40 damages for plaintiff was rendered Friday morning, which was promptly set aside by the judge without any motion being made. This was a suit for damages for cutting timber. Parker bought a tract of land on which the timber had been sold, and Parker claimed that he had no nrtti/?o In the case of J. W. Faust et al against the Seaboard Air Line Railway, a nonsuit was granted by the judge. Court adjourned last Friday morning, and Judge Purdy returned to his home in Sumter that afternoon. At the Opera Hoase. Next Thursday evening, October 26th, the George H. Adams Humpty Cumpty Company and clown band will appear at Folk's opera house in this city. This will be one of the very best attractions of the season. Seats are now on sale at Hoffman's, and yon had better secure good seats early, as all indications are forva crowded house. This is one of the funniest shows on the road. The Cotton Market. The cotton market is getting a little stronger since receipts generally have fallen off. The price being paid in Bamberg today (Wednesday) is 9 7-16 cents the pound, and the receipts of the week were 600 bales. G.
