He 1 found the people prosperous and happy, ( the merchants doing a good business, and ] everything calm and serene. Most of the stores in town 1 were closed, the graded school and Fit- 1 ting School suspended exercises, while ' the bank, depot, postoffice, and dis- ' pensary were closed. Services were held J in the morning at the Methodist chftrch. The ladies of the missionary society of : the Bamberg Baptist church will give a : Mystery Tea in the town hall on Friday evening, December 2nd, from (> o'clock until eleven. Simmons, in his city Tuesday evening about six 'clock, after a short illness. Heart trouble was the cause of her death. Mrs. Simmons was about seventy years old, ,nd was the widow of the late George Simmons. She leaves four children, mong them being Messrs. F. M. and G. ). Simmons, of this place, and Mr. R. F. Simmons, of Batesbnrg. The deceased lady had mpny friends mong a large circle of acquaintances, nd her death will cause sorrow to many learts. The burial is to take place this Wednesday) afternoon at four o'clock at he old cemetery, where she will be inerred by the side of her husband. The ervices will be conducted by Rev. M. W. look.
