The streets of the town are getting in
very bad shape. Many of them are full ol

some of the public roads are bettei

have the streets repaired and kept in fix:
The new graded school building is very

can if they will, and we hope they will
take the matter in hand.
The tax books will open next Saturday,

As a rule Bamberg has the worst kept
: streets of any town that we know of. In
no other place are merchants allowed the
privilege of blockading the streets and
sidewalks with all sorts of goods fruit
stands, etc.
County Treasurer Jno. F. Folk has
turned over the county funds the amount
of ?136.32, this being interest on daily deposits
from November 1st, 1903, to September

comes in very nicely for the county.

Editor Bamberg Herald, Bamberg, S. C.
Dear Sir: Your paper of October 3rd
contained a reference to Farmers' Institute
to be held at Bamberg. Mr. W. M.
Cauthen sent a petition dated June 24th
and requested that I address Mr. C. B.
Free, Bamberg, S. C., which I did on June
80th, stating that the petition was on fiile
and that the Institute would be held at
Bamberg, as requested by the petition,
sometime during the winter. As stated
in my communication referred to in your
paper, these Institutes will be held during
the m onth of December. As soon as practicable
after November 1st, dates will be
assigned for all of the Institutes for which
petitions are received. No petition after
that date will be considered.
There is no occasion for any othel petition
from Bamberg. The one already 1
recei red and on file is sufficient.
Yours truly,
J. S. Newman,
. Director of Farmers' Institutes.
