PAGE FOUR THE BARNWELL PEOPLE, BARNWELL SOUTH CAROLINA* THURSDAY, MARCH 26TH, 192.'. ?A THE BARNWELL PEOPLE Entered at the post office at Barnwell, S. C., as. second-class matter. JOHN W. HOLMES 1840-1912 i B. P. DAVIES, Editor and Proprietor. SUBSCRIPTION RATES: - One Year $1 50 Six Months *90 Three Months -&0 (Strictly in Advance.) THURSDAY. MARCH 26TH, 1925. For the first time this session. Gov ernor McLeod exercised his ri^ht of veto when he witheld his- appYoval from the new Barnwell County gov ernment act, which had passed i>oth th* 1 Senate and * he House. Ami so far as the writer is able to learn, it is t+io first tirp‘ ; ' in the history- >f te state that a strictly local measure has been vetoed. The Governor’s action evidently met with almost universal approval, judging from the c(»mment hard here Tuesday morning when it lie- cam e known that the liill had been vetoed. There w.ts a great deal o f cxpjKisition to any eluutge in the form of county government just at this time, for vrfTious reason'-. The | res- H>nt Board of Directors had been ap pointed for a term of four years and there was a disposition, on the part of the people to allow them to com plete their term of office. So far as The People knows, they have dis charged their duties in an equitable manner and have given ami are giv ing the people of the county a busi nesslike ' administration. Speaking, therefore, for ourself alone, we are perfectly satisfied that they be al lowed to continue in office and we take this means of commending Gov ernor McLeod for clearing up the »i'» 4 ior) visit to their sisters, Mesdames S.
