The little fellow recently underwent a serious operation, from which he is'recover ing splendidly. It is hoped that he V. ill' .-onll b‘ “rrr Death of Mrs. Rebecca Crown. The many friends-of' Col. Edgar A. Brown, of this city, will sympathize with him in the loss of his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Brown, who died at her home in Aiken Tuesday night at S o’clock, aged 72 years. Her body was laid to resf Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Mr. A. A. Brown, two sons, Col. Edgar A. Brown of Barnwell, and Mr. Grayer C. Brown, of St. Petersburg, Fin., and one daugh ter, Mrs. Oscarlstaley, of Sumter. MANY NEW ADVERTISERS use the ;•;•; ipr i: ioday Quite a number of new advertise ments will be found in this issue of’ The People, among them being those of C. F. Winn, of Wards, the Kendall Lumber Co., of Donora, The J. A. I’brter Co., of Barnwell, The Ameri can Tobacco Co., the Ford Motor Co., the Vamp Theatre and the American Agricultural Chemical Co. More arid more, "every day in every way,” advertisers are awaking to the fact that The People is the best ad vertising medium in Barnwell County. The official newspaper of Barnwell r • /County, with the largest bona fide county circulation, newsy, it offers exceptional advantages to the adver tiser. And it might be remarked in pass ing that The People is the only news paper in Barnwell that is (.quipped with a linotype, which insures prompt delivery of job work. Another ‘Bull’ Durham adver* tisement by Will Rogers, Zieg* feld Follies and screen star, and leading American humorist. More coming. Watch for them. I WANT it distinctly under stood that this is an ad. What’s more, it’s one of my first attempts. Ot course, the logical question is what ck)es Will Rogers know about writing an ad? My answer is simple—everything! The first thing any ad writer has got to know is how to get paid. I found that out. The first letters of the alphabet I learned were P. I. A.—that means Pay in Advance. The real truth about why I started writing ads tor these people is that I got a family .kicking the toes out of lots of shoes daily and I read where my employers sold enough ot their stuff so that if the bags were laid end to ‘end they would stretch further than from Oklahoma to Yokohama— and that’s some stretch. So 1 think this looks good to me. That’s why 1 signed up. I hope it turns into a steady job. At any rate, I’ll have another piece here two weeks from now. * X McLAl'RIN D.
