PAY OR RENEW YOUR NOTE The People has been told that the greatest difficulty is being ex perienced by bankers throughout the country in getting borrowers to give prompt attention to maturing papers. We understand that in many in- J* stances, the usual formal notice is absolutely disregarded and no effort is made either to pay the note or to effect a renewal. This should ifot * v V' '- 1 ' i be the case. The banks acted in perfectly good faith when the loan was made and they have a right to expect the borrowers to act in good faith now. We all know that very few are in position now to gay their notes on maturity, but at least an effort should be madde to renew them. The banks can handle new paper, whereas a past due obligation is a liability. Our bankers have passed through strenuous times and through it all manifested a forbearance that la truly remarkable, ami they have a right to «xpect some consideration from their customers. So if you who are reading these lines are one of those who, in the peat, have failed to give this nutter the attention it deserves, resolve to day to turn over a new leaf. ARMISTICE DAY. Cunningham. Twenty-four membern were pres ent when the president called the meeting to order. A paper by .Mr*. O. N. Courtney on “PersuNil Ex perience of a Veteran" and a read ing by Mrs. J. W. Johnson were highly entertaining. A dflicious salad course was serv ed by the hostess, after which a so cial hour was enjoyed by the mem bers. The chapter will meet with Mrs. T. C. Hair on Nov. 25th at four P. M. Clarence Kederick, colored, had the misfortune to have m horse fall on him Tuesday and break h»* leg. Misses Godbold and Foreman, two popular Williston teachers attended the State Fair last week. Miss Hayes accompanied Miss Robinson to her home in Roweaville last week-end. Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Kennedy, F. T. Mer ritt, W. E. Prothro, J. F. Grandv, Rev. M. B. Buckley and others at tended the meeting of the Barnwell Baptist .Association this week at Denmark. They were delegate* from the Williston Baptist Church. Messrs. J. C. Hair, J. W Cook and H. B. Waters are considerably bet ter and it is hoped that the latter two will soon be able to return from the hospital. Mr. Hair is still con fined to his room at his home in Williston. Miss Bettie Matthews was called to Augusta Saturday by the sad news that her brother, J. C. Matthews, had fallen through an elevator shaft and broken, his thigh. His many friends trust that his sojourn in the hospital will not be long and that his recovery will be rapid. Mr. S. H. Armstrong of Bruns wick, Ga., accompanied by his wife and little child are spending a few days in Williston. “Hood” has been kept busy shaking hands with his old friends. His mother, Mrs. Sc- _ frona Capel, will return to Bruns wick to spend the winter with him. - Miss Mattie Lee Bennett has re- • turned from a visit to Barnwell and Allendale. She attended the fucral of her aunt, wife of Sheriff Bennett of Allendale County. Two fcad deaths took place among the colored people of Williston &st week. Sarah Birt, wife of Ben Birt, who is a well known figure of Wit- liston, died last week. George Ber- rett alsopost a son. Of interest to people of Williston is the ■appointment of Hon. Chas.
