An advertisement an nouncing the sale of the Town Hall is on the back page. - Interesting News from Rosemary. Elko, Sept. 16.—Cotton picking is almost a thing of the past in this section. Conservative figures say that this section this year had 20 per cent, of a normal crop, and 75 per cent, of that has been gathered, so it is very evident that there is little in the field now. Miss Grace Rickenbaker, who last year taught in the Williston high school and who teaches this session at Estill, was the charming week end guest of Miss Mary Stansell. Miss Stansell accompanied her to Fairfax Sunday, where |hey were the guests of Mrs. Martin Lightsey. V. S. Owens, Esq., of Barnwell, was cordially welcomed to our town a few days ago. The most important news from us this week is the announcement that the Elko graded school opened last Monday morning. Appropriate ex ercises were held. Rev. J. D. Pea cock, pastor of Mt. Calvary’ Baptist Church, was warmly welcomed and earnestly conducted the devotional exercises. Mr. Power W. Bethea, State Supervisor of Rural Schools, of Columbia, made the principal ad dress, which was well received, and the Elko folk were glad to have had him present. Mrs. Clara L. John ston Hitt is the principal in charge again and she is being assisted by .Miss Gladys Willis, who has already won the affection of both children and patrons. Miss Myrtice Boyla- ton, of Blackville, will have charge of the first grade and music. Misses Lucy Lard and Clyde Pow ell were the guests of Misses Ruby and Annie Towne Sunday.
