died Tuesday in Asheville, N. C„
from injuries received in a fall some

in thd Barnwell Baptist Churchyard.

Auto Fire Narrowly Averted.
The touring car of"Mr. B. P. Davies
narrowly escaped destruction by fire
Suriday morning while t Mrs. Davies
and Mrs. J. A. Porter were returning
to Barnwell, from Williston. Near
Long Branch Church they noticed
smoke issuing from'tinder the hood.
Mrs. Davies quickly stopped the car

The body of Mr. Gus B. Pechman,
who died early Saturday morning at
the hoftie of his sister, Mrs. T. J.
Woodward, in Williston,-was laid to
rest at 2:30-o’clo'ck Sunday afternoon
in the Barnwell Episcopal Church
yard, the funeral services being corP
ducted at the graVe by Dr. W. M.
Jones, pastor of the Barnwell Baptist

Bearing/Farmer, Sr., died at his hoihe
in Allendale Thursday after several
weeks’ illness, in the fifty-seventh
year of his age.i ’ y
.-Hemg one of the prominent citizens
of the town and beloved by. all classes
by--reason! of his genial and sympa
thetic! natpre and high xharacter,. his
death was a great blow to the whole
community', where he was a leader in
all progressive movements.
He was an active member in the
Episcopal Church in which-he setved

as senior)warden, and a ^ prominent
member 6f the Masonic and K. of P.
orders. . ,

the Church of the Holy Communion

He is shn-ived by his second wife,
who was Miss Ida Miller, of Shmmer-
ville, and their five children; one
brother, W. A. Farmer, of Baltimore;
two sisters, Mrs. Z. fA.* Sear son, of

son, of Clemson College.
Me was laid to rest at Swallow Sa
vannah Cemetery, where a large con
course of friends gathered to pay their
44ast tribute to this beloved friend and
citizen.
The grave was hidden beneath a
mass of beautiful floral offerings

Church, in ,the presmee of a large

friends. The hews of Mr. Pechman’s
friend! here, very few of whom knew
that he was ill. He was stricken with
pneumonia several days ago and, in
spite of the skill of physicians and the
tender nursing of loving hands grew
steadily^worse.
i Mr. Pechman was A nephew of the
late Mr. Charles Pechman of, this
city and also of the late sheriff Hood,
of Fairfield County, who was killed
on the Court House steps in Winns-
boro several years ago in defense of
a prisoner. . He was 52 years of age

and spent the greater part of his life
in-Barnwell. He is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. T. J...Woodward, of Wil
liston, and Miss Minnie Pechman, of
Augusta, Ga., who have the sympathy
if many friends in their bereavement.
