Carrying recommendations that the
entire tax system of the state be re
vised, that all property be revalued
in an effort to justly place the bur
den of taxes, that the state take
control pf all assesing prerogatives,
that an inheritance and income tax
should be established *- during the
next few years that a general re
vision of the administrative scheme'
of the state at present should be
made and many other recommenda
tions are contained in the report of
the joint legislative committee to the
governer and made public in Colum
bia Saturday.
The committee completed its work
some time ego, but tnc report was
not finished and given out until Sat
urday. The 1920 general assembly
appointed the committee to study the
tax situation of South Carolina thor
oughly and the report is very ex
haustive, taking up every phase of
the government. Senator J. H. Ma
rion of Chester is chairman of the
committee and he was assisted by the
following members: Senator Chris
tenson of Beaufort, Senator Laney of
Chesterfield. Reprenentptirea Berry
of Orangeburg, Lide of Marion.' At
kinson of Spartanburg and Bucking
ham of Aiken.
