An Oakland car driven by a young
lady ran into Dr. J. G. Woolejfs Chal
mers on Main Street Friday after
noon. A fender was bent and one
wheel was broken on the doctor’s ma-
chine t which was parked in front ^of
the Macc Drug Co. The Oakland was
not damaged.

Williston won the Art! of th« series
of three games with St. Matthews
Monday «Itemoon, 4 to I. It waa a
plain case of “too much Williston,”
which hal the visitors entirely at
their mercy throughout. The fe*-
tiires of the game were the batting and
fielding of the Williston players. A
scout for the Philadelphia club of the
American League was present. The
attendance was possibly the largest
ever seen at a ball game in this sec
tion. _ »
The second game was won by St.
Matthews, 5 to 4. Williston led off
in the first inning with one run and
for six innings had things her own
way. However, a combination of hits
and errors in the seventh enabled
the visitors to come from behind with
a lead of one run that Williston could
not overcome.

John Simms, one of our Barnwell
high school boys is ho longer a boy,
as John has completed his law course
at the University of South Carolina,
and “Dots” understands that he will
hang out his shingle in the city of
Columbia, and as John i$ very smart,
affable and energetic, and comes from
a family of lawyers, of course he will
make good in his chosen profession.
We regret to state that Miss Kath
leen Griffin*, who was re-elected by
the Board of Trustees, to teach in the
Graded School, afterwards asked to
be elected to the department of the
High School, which the Board readily
consented to has now asked to be re
leased entirely. We will all miss her
so much, as she was an efficient and
devoted school teacher.

Robison, the superintendent, says
he will be in Bamwejl September 9th,
and the school will open Friday, Sep
tember 26th, and begin regularly Mon
day, September 29th, and we all are
looking forward to a great school year.

morning from New York, where he

Mrs. J. L. Ellis left on Monday for
Baltimore on a visit to Dr. and Mrs.
D. B. Lancaster of the University of
Maryland. Mr. Ellis will join her

nesday, Thursday and Friday of this
week with a club from Columbia and
the fans are anticipating some snappy
contests. The locals will be strength
