Ma jor R. E. Carwile, in charge of the selective draft organization in South Carolina, has issued the following in structions for securing this bonus: “Section 1406 of the Revenue Act approved February 24, 1919, authoriz es the payment of a bonus of $60 to of ficers, soldiers, field clerks and nurses of the army upon honorable separa tion from active service by dischahrge, resignation or otherwise. This bonus is not payable to the heirs or repre sentatives of any deceased soldier. 4 Those who are discharged hereaf- l t*r will receive this bonus on the same roll or voucher upon which they are given their final pay. “Those who have been discharged iand have ijgceived their final pay with out the $60 bonus should write a let ter to the zone finance officer, Lemon building, Washington, D. C„ stating their service since April 6, 1917, the date of last discharge and their pres ent address to which they desire their bonus checks to be sent, and enclosing with this letter their discharge and certificate or military order for dis charge, and both, if both w6re issued. “Upon the receipt by the zone fi nance officer, Washington, D. C., of this information and the soldier’s dis charge certificate, this officer wiM cause checks to be drawn and mailed to the claimants in the order in which their claims were received by hini. The discharge certificate will be re turned to the soldier with the check. “It is estimated that at least 1,250,- 000 persons have been discharged from the service who are entitleed to the benefits of this act, and while pay- manifestly take considerable time to write and mail this many checks.” R.
