Serfta. Zack Creighton and Isadora
Owens, of' Camp Sevier, were the
guests of relatives here this week.
Private Raymond M. Kearse and
Corporal John 0. Brabham, of Camp
Jackson, spent Sunday in the city with
relatives.
Attorney General Thos. H. Peeples
and Asst. Attorney General Claud N.
Sapp, of Columbia, were visitors here
last week.
Messrs P. W. Price and Bennett
left here Saturday morning via auto
mobile for Camp Sevier, but when they
reached Newberry County they found
the roads in such a terrible condition
that they were forced to abandon the
trip and return home.
Mr. Reynolds S. Martin, of WHlis-
ton, was in the city Tuesday on busi
ness.
Messrs. J. L. Still, of Barnwell,
route 1/ and C. S. Creech, of Ulmer,
called very cleverly at The People of
fice Tuesday.
Mrs. & N. Woodward was called to
Batesburg Friday to the bedside of
her son, Mr. Leroy Woodward, who
has been suffering for the past sever
al days from severe nose-bleeding.
He was taken to a Columbia hospital
Saturday afternoon and is slowly re
covering. « ,V
Senator J. Henry Johnson, of Allen
dale, is attending Court here this
week.
Attorneys A. H. Ninestein, of Black-
ville, and Jas. M. Patterson, of Allen
dale, are among the visiting lawyers
here this week.
Cadet Owen Riley, of The Citadel,
spent several days in the city last
week.
Fireman Solomon Brown, U. S. N.,
was the guest of relatives here this
week.
Sergt. Ralph Brown, of Porter’s
Military Academy, was the guest of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie
Brown, Sunday.
There has been no let-up in the num
ber of new volunteer subscribers to
The People during the past week.

A Ford automobile loaded with ne
groes hit a hog Friday night on the
Barnwell-Snelling road and turned
turtle. None of the five occupants of
the machine was seriously injured/al
though they were all more or less
shaken up and bruised. This is the
second accident of the kind in the vi
cinity of Barnwell during the past few
months. It seems to the average citi
zen that the owners of hogs should be
required to keep them off of the pub
lic highways.

of Allendale. Ensign All has been
stationed at Charleston for several
months, having enlisted as a seaman
in November and having taken the
examination for promotion in Decem
ber. Ho has been transferred to the
United States Naval Academy at An
napolis for a special course of train
ing which will bo extended over a per

of which time he expects to be as
signed to active duty
